After we win a flag and stop chasing Kim Duthies?

I think it was Kim Duthie doing most of the chasing of our players.

Anyway I don't have a problem with the Geelong players taking the piss out of Nixon and Duthie, they probably deserve it and neither have anything to do with St Kilda anyway. Might have been a bit different if they dressed up as Gilbert or Riewoldt.

All good 'clean' fun by Bartel & Duncan if you ask me. I cracked up when I first saw the photo. :D Hats off to Geelong for their professionalism and not being sidetracked by off the field incidents. They have managed to stay a professional unit and keep their heads down even with stuff like Stokes coke charge. You have to hand it to them 3 flags in five years and the oldest list in 7 decades to do it.

Yep great to see Coll trampled. Early on listening to their constant booing and seeing the rage and hate on their faces - then later they went quiet....... :thumbsu:

So why use a St Kilda jumper at all?

That's a fair point Squizzy. I suppose he could have used a Flying Start sports management shirt. Then again it wasn't just Nick Riewoldt but also Tom Hawkins under their management. Most probably wouldn't have got it though if a Flying Start management shirt was worn.

Also notice the sponsors and the word "chicken" on the jumper as well as a rubber chicken. I mean the message is pretty "clear" there. I'll admit I was cheering for the cats during the Grand Final in a Bar on Saturday and saying "Go pussies" all afternoon with a good mate who happens to be a Dons supporter. Plenty of cats and pies fans at the venue, most of them were toffs. Many resented our "Go Pussies" call, but I paid my way and had my say.
Come to think of it probably not as bad as North Melbourne chicken sex and roadkill video. That didn't make any sense at all.

It could have had St.George Bank on the guernsey but they're no longer our sponsors.

Oh well, let's hope our well paid professional players can resist the advances and/or "unrequited love" as Plugger35 may put it, of a 17 year old high school girl in the future.

You get what you give I suppose.

To get our players nose out of joint and make sure they are Dempstered next time we meet.

Could also be that out of 60 odd games he played 50 odd with us during the 85(ish)-90(ish) seasons, so technically speaking he's also a past player.

But nah, these footballers have no idea how to use google or wiki, must be a swipe from month old newspapers. :p

Just so I can get this straight:

Nixon plays with 3 clubs, Hawthorn being his last club (noting he played in a final for them), and he's "former St Kilda player Ricky Nixon".

Lovett plays nearly 100 games for Essendon, and doesn't even play a practice game at the Saints. He's "former St Kilda player Andrew Lovett".

Pardon me for suggesting WTF.

Theres no WTF the name "st kilda" makes the herald sun a shit load of money

Cheers for supporting us during the GF.

This year showed that the "too old" theory doesn't work (look at the Dallas Mavericks even!) and that new coaches can really make an impact. I still think the Saints are always a chance while the Cats are a chance. I don't know the saints list so well, but your top 6-8 is still one of the best. If you guys can add a few more contributors (young or old), add on Lenny next year, then you'll be a chance for another crack at the flag.

On a sep. note, I don't get the chicken reference on Mitch Duncan's jumper.

I tend to agree with our coach - it was a private function. But I get the point about using a St Kilda guernsey perhaps not being the wisest way of impersonating Nixon. Still, I'll start getting concerned if the players start doing something illegal on 'Mad Monday'.

This year has been the year when I suddenly realised, "Sh!t, Jimmy is a genuine all-time champion."

On a side note, I think it's really interesting that Watters wants to start up a version of a "football academy" at St Kilda. An unacknowledged part of Geelong's development (both in terms of talent and 'culture') has been our Academy, which has been around for a while now. The other is that the final test for any player the club considered recruiting was their character.

And that's not a cheap shot at St Kilda, but an acknowledgment of where GFC were in 1999 - a rabble financially, recruiting recycled players (sometimes overruling our own recruiters to do so - a trick which never really worked beyond hiring in some mediocre players and overlooking potential stars), and with to be honest a pretty ordinary culture.

All the best to Saints for the future. To some extent you're copying Geelong's model, but that's not something to be resented as a Cats fan.
