How often do you get a 'thanks' from your manager/supervisor after a shift or at the end of the day at work?

Hardly ever from one of my faculties. Almost on a daily basis from my other coordinator from my other faculty.

/FWIW try to remember to do it also- sent a thank you email yesterday for the Year 9 exam supervision. It went extremely well, unlike the balls up that happened last semester.

At my ... second? job out of Uni my boss would thank me at the end of every day.

Not the end of every day, but at least once a week. And we get taken out for lunch on occasions as well.

I guess I'm in a very fortunate position to be at such a great workplace but also symptomatic of the type of work we do.

At my last casual job I would hear it at the end of every shift from the boss.

If I heard it in my current job i'd assume it was my last day.

Why do you need a “thanks” on top of that?

I don't think you need to routinely thank people for attendance, but sometimes people actually do a good job. Rare, but it does happen.

Usually means Thanks but we won't be renewing your contract.

Otherwise never. It is rare I will see a manager/supervisor every day anyway. If they started then coming up to thank me that would be unnerving.

I'm always thanking myself and letting myself know i am an integral part of team billy ray, and that i am employee of the month 6 years running

Pretty frequently. Can do without it to be honest.

But if I've done something to head off some shitstorm that they didn't even know was coming - well at least it lets me know that they noticed.
