Surprisingly friendly comment from a Pies supporter, almost human, but then I see why. You are a Canberra based Pies supporter, very different from a Melbourne based Pies supporter!

Have to agree with you.

There are worse supporters around more so than Collingwood supporters, they're called Carlton supporters. :)

I lost it when i saw this bloke! What a champion, i just had to find some footage of him somehwere so i'm glad you boys have a thread for him.

Bad luck the other night, but this guy should be given life membership. Disgusting toothless collingwood supporters.

You know, I never ever felt threatened at Princess Park, but many times felt in danger at Victoria Park. Pies supporters are by far the worst. Most supporters treat football as a game, Pies supporters treat it as life and death. I (regretfully) have a relative who is a Pies supporter, and once, when the Pies were due to play the Blues the following week (the Blues had to travel back from an interstate trip). My relative made the statement, that "he wouldnt care if their plane crashed". I was disgusted by the comment and questioned him, but he was deadly serious. Now I dont know how a true supporter of Aussie Rules could ever make a statement like that towards another team, even in jest.

I once attended a game at Victoria Park between the Swans and the Pies. (This story was also told in another Thread some time ago entitled 'Your First Swans Game'. I remember Bedford also commented that he attended this game) I had my son with me, who at that time was about 10 years old. This was in the times when Warrick Capper was playing for us. The Swans were well behind early but did an amazing turn around to win the match, with Capper kicking a number of goals. I had promiosed my son that I would take him down into the Swans dressing rooms after the match to celebrate. Well after the final siren, the crowd went feral. The mounted Police had to use their horses to protect the umpires and get them off the ground, similarly the Swans players had to make a hasty retreat to the rooms. From where I was I could see the enraged Magpie supporters belting on the umpires and the Swans dressing room doors. They were literally trying to break the doors down. I made the decision to disappoint my son, but he understood as he could see the reason why we didnt go down and join the celebrations. I hid my (Swans) colours in order to make it back to my car safely.

No one will convince me that the Pies supporters are not the worst in the league. In fact probably in any sport. I know this is generalising, and perhaps there are many good, fair supporters, but they also have the worst.

I had the cops set onto me at a Carlton game, all because I said Chris Judd is a money hungry whore who screwed the Eagles over, I left during the 3rd quarter of the game. Carlton supporters can give out banter, but cannot take it. I have been amongst Collingwood fans and at least they can take banter and give it. I'll never ever go to a Swans/Blues game again because of that Blues supporters actions, while I won't have a problem going to a Collingwood game, even if the Swans aren't playing. No one will convince me otherwise, about Carlton supporters. I hate that club, especially when they wanted to boot OUR club out of the league in the early 90's, I'll never forgive them for that either. To say I hate Carlton with a passion, is an understatement, they gave me shit last week, every single Carlton supporter I know, gave me shit. They are not gracious winners and losers.

Collingwood >>> Carlton.

There are supporters from every AFL club that would fit that description. Apart from the fact that every Collingwood game is an 'event' and the atmosphere usually pretty charged, I've never felt their fans are any worse than others.

On a somewhat related note... I've been in South America for the past 12 months. Argentina for the pàst 2-3 months. Not a football (soccer) fan normally, but I got taken to a few River Plate games over the last few weeks and have developed a bit of passion for them. They have had a really bad few years, and despite being the most successful, best supported, and wealthiest club in Argentina, they have just been relegated to the 2nd division. I was at the game yesterday that decided they would be relegated and the game was called off with 5 minutes left as up to 3-4k hooligans tried to break down the barbed wire fence and storm the pitch. This coming after the 1st leg in the relegation game where River fans wearing balaclavas broke through the fence and assaulted (well, pushed) their own players. We were in lockdown for hours while fans rioted outside. Dozens of police were injured - stabbings - bricks being thrown - dogs set on people - one cop has apparently been killed - cars set alight - etc etc etc.

Will never complain about other AFL fans again :thumbsu:

Cool Youtube moment though. He's got balls.

Similar to my experience in England last year. Mine was no where near as extreme, but went to a Hull City-Milwall game at Milwall. No one else I was living with wanted to go because they thought it'd be too dangerous, but it was my one chance to watch Hull play while I was over there, and we were belted 4-0, but I loved the atmosphere and the chants etc.

Coming out of the ground, the Milwall fans all leapt up on the barbed wire fencing separating them from us, and threw bottles, coins, etc. at us, and the Hull fans charged at the fence with the police pushing us - well, I'd stepped to the side so not exactly us - back. We were then sectioned off in a long tunnel while the police made sure every Milwall fan was out of the ground before we were allowed to leave.

AFL is incredibly tame compared to that, a 4-0 loss in the second division of England. Can only imagine what West Ham-Milwall games will be like this season. If anyone has no idea about those two teams, watch Green Street to see the kind of violence these two teams experience against each other.

That is the best thing about the AFL. It is passionate without resorting to houliganism and ridiculous rivalries that turn into violence. Both sides' supporters can sit next to each other without having to worry about getting bottled.

I think the main reason why European sports experience this, is particularly Soccer is a low scoring affair, which is why there are chants etc. at the ground, something for the supporters to do. Can lead to frustration, anger etc. Also the fact that especially in England but also all over Europe, nearly every City or town has one or more teams, and I think it's a way for gangs to organise fights, to knock out another city's gang, or a rival gang in their own city. I don't think sport in Australia is as gang related, if at all.

Collingwood >>> Carlton.

You had cops come to you, for saying THAT (Ie. truth)? Man that sucks.

In general, I disagree with the general consensus on bigfooty about Collingwood fans. I think most are bandwagoners due to the Manchester United effect (They act like true supporters, but they're only loyal as long as the team is winning). Where were all the Collingwood fans when they were getting their asses handed to them in the late 90's and couldn't win a game? So they (Moderate fans of Collingwood) don't really trouble me. Also, I don't really mind the passionate ones, as I feel they bring passion to the league.

The supporters I'm truly repulsed by time and again seem to be Saints supporters.

Yep, scum of the highest order.

Norf fans aren't much better. At the recent game at Etihad I had to tell a Norf supporter to pull his head in for dropping the F-bomb (directed at a Dogs supporting mate) in front of 2 young girls. The 2 girls in question were his own children.

Yep, believe it or not, it's true. I was disgusted with their attitudes, so I left. It's why I hate sitting amongst Carlton supporters. Too arrogant for their own good.

sadly every team has their "bad" fans even we do i have seen some shocking swans fans

EVERY single team has them i can even be a shocker at time and often catch myself swearing when its not needed (shoudlnt swear at all)

Teams we dislike are always going to highlight "worse fans" more

the thing we have 2 do which is hard is just turn the other cheek

Cats fans get under my skin ;]

They are the worst St Scum cannot handle 1 flag in a thousand years.

All teams have feral fans. To me it isn't about turning the other cheek, but about humour. Make a funny comment, lighten the mood. Despite our passion it is only a game! Good luck to you ROK! What you did was both brave and funny, and you deserve to go down in the annals of Swannies fandom!

What for, making a d@@khead of himself

Nothing wrong with making a ******** of oneself. It's a time-honoured sporting tradition. I bet if the guy was an aging South supporter you'd be loving how he stuck it to those Pies fans.

The guy was having a laugh, no harm done, a lot of people, Pies, Swans and neutrals alike, enjoyed it, so play on.
