I'm just back from Europe and stayed in Malaysia on the way back.
The headline argument there is about the right of non Muslims to use the word 'Allah'. Apparently it follows a high court decision that Roman Catholics could use the word in text. Now Malaysian parliament is looking to introduce a bill that will make the use of the word by non Muslims unlawful.
Apart from the obvious restrictions on freedom of speech I believe this is a further indication of a growing rift between the Islamic and non Islamic world. In essence 'Allah' is a number of characters that were formed to enunciate a spoken sound to allow repetition. Allah means 'God'. Translation to any other language is surely reasonable.
In a recent official UK survey, over 50% of the population perceived Islamic religion within UK as being a serious issue.
My feeling is that we are seeing a growing rift, and that it is being intensified by all parties.
