Couple of thinks I'm interested in:
- Wife and I had a night in a hotel Sat night followed by brunch. Picked up the Monday sales for the first time in years. I LOVE the score involvement and metres gained stats. Where can we reliably get them and include them here?
- we are currently 6th in the comp for goal kicking accuracy, surprised and pleased by this.
- third for goal assists. Not surprised but well pleased by this.
- 7th for tackles. Good. No longer a dramatic issue for us.
- 3rd also for goals kicked. In another thread some folk were disappointed in the functioning of our forward line. I don't think our forwardline is so much an issue. We kick enough goals.
- 2nd for inside 50's.. .okay maybe I should back off the last statement, bit more efficiency here would be good.
- 10th for 1%s. Would like to see this higher. Typically a stat picked up by spoiling...
- very low on R50's.. (equal 14th). I'm really keen to see Walshy's transition ladders on his desk. Not sure this is a problem. Obviously depends on ratio of what we let in to begin with...
- 2nd in clearances. 3rd in centeres and stoppages. Happy enough with this.
- 3rd in Marks inside 50m, 10th in contested marks. Again, forward line functioning pretty well -> but if we had a great contested marker.. could be a better.
- 3rd in marks overall. Indicates reasonable ball use and movement. Two sides above us are the benchmark - freo and hawks. A good 5%+ in front as well.
- 6th in clangers - should be looking to improve this. With the way we defend we can't afford too many turnovers.
- 14th in DE. Really need to lift this as well... again, turnovers will kill us with the way we press up.

Summary - if we can improve our ball use I think we'll see a solid improvement on what are already some good statistical indicators.
I think that low R50's is a result of high Clangers and low DE%. Whenever we give the ball up we are often pressed up and can get exposed over the back. Low 1%'s indicates we're probably not spoiling as much as other teams -> mostly because we are not creating as many scenarios opposition needs to kick long to a contest.
I like the press idea - for now (we've yet to see if sustainable for the season and finals footy). But if we're going to play it we MUST start using the ball better.

I think Eddie probably makes our forward line better than it is actually structured. Guy is AMAZING.

I just did a CG minus FA to look at footy skill errors to eliminate umpire interpretation. We are 2nd worst behind Port Power. Sydney is 3rd worst.
The best is West Coast, Freo, Melbourne. Hawks are 7th.

Someone can check for errors.... Just did it quickly then.

As you say, the ratio is important. We only conceded 40 I50's on Saturday, had 28 R50's. 70%

So:
R1 37/47 v opp 41/63
R2 33/44 v Coll 46/58
R3 34/42 v Melb 40/54
R4 45/63 v WB 41/51
R5 24/42 v PT 58/71
R6 28/40 v GC 41/60

So 201/278 (72.3%) vs our opponents 267/357 (74.8%)

We are conceding 28% less I50 than we are getting. Need to use it better in our F50.

Ah ok.

Just looking at this season - We are still fielding fairly young/inexperienced sides each week. Our most experienced/oldest was vs Port.

Last year our lowest was 1544 games

On a side note the Bandwagoners can no longer boast "Young list" or inexperienced team. ~2500 games pushing 26 yo - this seems to be the "premiership window"

Not sure if we want or need this, but seeing as I'm the self proclaimed Statman, I decided to do it anyway. I'll update our stats every week.

Some interesting team stats;

• 69.5% DE is ranked 16th in the league, yet we keep our opponents to 68.9% DE, ranked 4th.
• What's in a rushed behind? I discussed with someone in this thread earlier this year. First three weeks we won, and had a total of 12 rushed behinds at an average of 4 per game. Last two weeks we've had a total of 1 rushed. What is different about our style this last fortnight that is causing less rushed behinds?

Some interesting player stats;

• We had 9 players dispose above 80% efficiency on Sunday. Didn't appear so effective while watching.
• After we worked out the error with minutes played last week, all the major sites have been updated. People power works after all.
• Scott 'Guns' Thompson is an interesting case regarding minutes played being our only midfielder ranked in our clubs top 10 time on ground averaging 84.7% game time. The rest of the top 10 are forwards and defenders.
• Dangerfield has overtaken Sloane as our highest grossing dreamteam scorer. PD has been overtaken by Nat Fyfe in the AFL player ratings, and is less than 1 point behind RS.

Not sure if we want or need this, but seeing as I'm the self proclaimed Statman, I decided to do it anyway. I'll update our stats every week.

Some interesting team stats;

• Our DE improved from 69.5% to 70.6% this week and from 16th to 14th in the league. We also remain able to keep our opponents DE below ours.
• What's in a rushed behind? Another two rushed behinds this week at a rate of 4 times more than in our losses so far.
• Rear Admiral mentioned being 11th in uncontested possessions. I feel the better test is how we stack up against our opponents. Compared to the league, we're only 0.4 uncontested possessions per game behind the median. Compared to our direct opponents, we're plus 12.
• Our scoring ratio to i50s is 44.25%, compared to our direct opponents 44.96%. Means we need to get better at efficiency once inside the arc.

Admittedly the Snake was given most of his ball while chipping around the back half as GC were flooding back. He didn't have much pressure on him. His composure was there. Saw him using his voice even on the TV. Gem.

Very, very good point. The main reason we're in the toilet with this stat is because of our lack of leg-speed - we take forever and a day to get the ball from our Defensive 50 to our Forward 50, so by the time the ball does arrive....the opposition has clogged up our Forward Line. It's not about structures or set plays, or method - we just haven't recruited enough ground level players that are quick enough to get the Pill from one end of the ground to the other. And the two idiots most responsible for this mess are Craig and Trigg, who are both gone (thank Christ).

Against The Bulldogs and Power, see if you can count the number of times we outran the opposition going Forward, and kicked to Tex and Eddie in one-on-one situations? F*ck all. And take a look at how wide most of our Forward possessions are. Nor are they running into an open Goal. But our opponents do....regularly.
Yes, our kicking is woeful, no question. But get some genuine leg-speed into our Midfield, then watch our Forward Line fire. Until then, ain't happening....not by a long shot.

- 3rd also for goals kicked. In another thread some folk were disappointed in the functioning of our forward line. I don't think our forwardline is so much an issue. We kick enough goals.
- 3rd in Marks inside 50m, 10th in contested marks. Again, forward line functioning pretty well -> but if we had a great contested marker.. could be a better.

The issue is we need to see the differences in performance between our wins and our losses to see how we really stack up. We can then see which stats are actually linked to the way we perform. The fact that we are 3rd in Marks inside 50 suggests that our the way our forward line functions isn't an issue however I would massively disagree with that. I think its our #1 KPI that Phil should be focusing on (forget that Groundball Malarkey).

In my BockOff/TuesdayExpert I had a focus on the difference between our loses and our wins. I have now included the Gold Coast game and it now stands as this.

WINS: 58.75 inside 50's per game, 28.5 scoring shots per game, 15.75 goals per game, 16.25 marks inside 50 per game.
LOSSES: 64.5 inside 50's per game, 19 scoring shots per game, 11.5 goals per game, 10 marks inside 50 per game.

Obviously its a small sample size (4 wins / 2 losses) but the difference is astounding. When our forward entries are good - they are great. When they are bad - they are absolutely woeful. To be honest though, its to be expected. We are a young side with a new coach - I think every reasonable supporter thought that we would have big highs and bigger lows this year.

I guess the thing that I take out of the above is that for our performance - the amount of inside 50's don't really matter. We get a very similar number regardless of win or loss. The key stat for me is the marks inside 50 where there is a massive differential between our wins and losses.

Struggling to figure out what Wright actually does in the forward line. He's had no goals, and no behinds, in 7 games. And only 5 goal assists.

Watch him provide blocks to either initiate space for the others to work within or to block opposition defenders while not giving away a free for doing so. That's def one part of his role this season. This allows our other forwards to get better quality ball.
