gday

i have to admit, i have been a critic of eagleton this year, and wanted him dumped from the team this week. however, i thought today , he was a major contributor in the 3rd quarter revival , and he figured in several plays today that resulted in goals for us, and he made a valuable contribution to the team over 4 quarters...

I was Just wondering what others think of Eagles game today, and whether you see him figuring in our team as a valuable member as the season goes on?

cheers

Eagle was a terrific contributor and his long range goal on half time was just the thing to instil some belief in the side.

He has been pretty good all year despite the views of some posters.

The problem over the previous 3 weeks was a lack of run to provide options across the side as a whole. Unfortunately that results in poor disposal, which then focuses on turnovers.

Turnovers are often blamed on those that have worked hard to get the ball in the first place.

Eagleton has performed run-with roles several times this year, but from what I could tell today (on the TV with no volume) he was playing more of his traditional free wheeling run and carry game. And he was excellent. He had more impact today than in any other game of the year. I think today showed that it's a waste of time getting him to do a tagging job - either let him do what he does best, or don't pick him.

I've been a critic of Eagle a well, mainly because of he too often gets caught with the footy while trying to get onto his left.

He was very good today, but I'd like to see a few more games like that over the next few weeks.

Doesn't make up for the shot from inside 50 during the Prelim against Geelong. Where was his raking left foot then?

Yeah and our Captain missing a easy mark to give the cats a easy goal in the crucial time of the game

or

the fact we got smashed in the first final

please

Don't underestimate his efforts in the first half when the arm wrestle was going on.

I've been faiirly critical of Eagleton so far this year but yesterday's was a much better game, mainly due to his much improved kicking. I think his effort has always been there. Yesterday he was brought into the game more often and in better passages of play because the whole team played better (or were allowed to play better.)

Eagle's future this year is a good barometer of our development. Everyone knows his limitations (often gets runs down, turnovers under pressure) and strengths (gut runner, can play run with, can be damaging when given space), but I believe if he is playing at the end of the year, then the likes of O'Keefe and Ward will not have kicked on as much as I would have hoped.

When the rest of the midfield is firing, recievers like Grif and Ego should be getting a tonne of quality disposals.

the question mark is what are they bringing to the table when that isnt the case?

I think both players have shown an imrovement in their contested and defensve games this year, griffen in particular. But Egos achilles heel has always been disposal under pressure, which always seems to rear its head during those tight games when you least want it to.

Theres hardly any point talking about Eagletons game any more, its been done to death and its his last season, and he is performing well enough that eade is selecting him every week, and thats that.

If he was playing like that every week he wouldn't get criticized at all.

Yesterday in addition to getting a lot of the pill he actually hurt the opposition with his disposal.

This has been his week point and why he has been, justifiably, criticized in the past.

He played well yesterday and deserves his praise, but let's not pretend for a second that any of the criticism he gets is unjustified.

Do you have a link to anything saying that he's retiring this year or getting axed? I dont think so. He will be there next season.

I think hsi contract is up this year, and lsit management suggests that the team would be better off with a youngster taking his postion and freeing up that salary for the likes of our guns who we want to retain in the face of gold coast poaching.

I would be very suprised if he was recontracted.

He's only 30 and i'd be surprised if he keeps up this form that they don't offer him a 1 year deal.

I'll admit he's been good this year, BUT..... What really annoys me is, more often then not he crumbles under severe pressure. When he actually plays a half decent match against sides like Geelong and Saints, then he will convince me to put him in the best 22 for the whole year.
