Matt is the smartest bloke on the show, though that is nothing to brag about . He also doesn't hold onto grudges like the others. he works hard, has a laugh , has a bitch. Matt and kim have added the most arguably in this series. down to them and the twins. the rest seem less mature

Arguing about laying bricks with a bricklayer, not terribly sharp. Additionally there was no need at all to be a total asshat about it to Bec, a little respect and decorum when dealing with your peers goes a long way. If he had spoken to my wife that way i wouldn't have stayed as calm as George did.

Hardly a brick-layer.
The moron has never cut a brick.

And took him 3 days to lay up a one day job.

And he would be the first tradie in history to drag ass on completing a job? Whatever, from what i have seen of Matt i think he is a self righteous dickhead. You guys think he is alright. We don't know him any further than the show so who really cares.

Not when they are on a one week schedule i wouldn't think so.

Seriously? Not being a smartass but have you dealt with alot of tradies?

Yeah mate, my old man and brother have been in the game for about 40 and 15 years respectively so have been around various tradies since day dot.

I doubt if he has ever had his own business, he would go broke. Im guessing he works for a cousin or something who accepts his slo-go approach. Has no idea.

Given they have just worked for 6-8 weeks pulling probably 80-100 hours a week, i would be willing to cut him some slack. In any event my point was more that he would know more than Matt about bricklaying. For all my criticism of Matt (which i stand by, he still seems like a twat) he is a hard worker, i will give him that. Also my call about having a beer with Trixie over him was out of line. I'd rather drink urine from a bricklayers boot with Matt than have a beer with Trixie.

Wow, they must have very good connections. Having dealt with a few in my time in construction i have seen some who are willing to "go slow" on time critical jobs knowing that firms will throw cash at them for additional resources. The old cost v time v quality conundrum.

People would be lining up to get Matts rendering work after this show, and i doubt Georges phone will ring once.

Id employ Matt any day over George. At the end of the day George would cost you money, Matt would make it for you.

Whilst i tend to agree with you (and actually echoed that same sentiment in my last post) that has nothing to do with having a beer with someone. Matt comes accross as a self righteous arseh*le, if the show is anything to go by his missus was about to leave him cause he is always such an arseh*le. He might be a better/more skilled/harder working tradie but that doesn't make him a better bloke. George seems like a laid back cat, one i would much rather hang out with. I don't believe i questioned Matt's abilities or his motivations i just think he seems like a dickhead, and last nights episode reinforced that opinion. There was no need to be such an arseh*le to Bec and the way he spoke to her was, in my opinion, out of line. If he had an issue with the scheduling of the work or whatever thats fine raise it and see what you can do to fix it but he went about it all wrong and if he spoke to me or my wife like that i would have told him to f**k off. To each their own guys.

let's not forget that once the cameras are running, personalities change.

So you are making your judgment based on what you don't see, hear or know?

im a firm believer that "reality" tv is not reality at all. think about it, if you are on camera you will treat each scene differently than you would if you were in the same situation without being recorded.

And massive editing. We dont know what the lead up to that conversation was about. Apparently Mat and Kim are good friends with Trixy and Johno, but the way they are portrayed in the show they dont get on.

Something that caught my ear early in the week when they were trying to get organised to do all the group work, Trixi said she spoke to Kieth as he has been in the trade for years and been a Foreman on other building sites.

She was speaking about Keith the Foreman in past tense, not Keith the current Foreman. Maybe the rumour was true.

Yeh i get that, the whole "villain edit" thing, but i'm curious, what do you base your opinion of these people on if it's not what they show?

i dont form an opinion. just watch it for entertainment. much like a sitcom or mini series.

Fair call, i was going to say if you are watching to see the building and renovation you have picked the wrong show.

Agreed, I know someone who was convinced it was simple to make money on a renovation after watching the block, correct me if I'm wrong but the cost of the renos themselves are not taken out of their prizes, its just the difference between old property value and sale price?

I won't correct you but it is actually the profit over the reserve that they make as prize money. The cost of the renos has no effect on the prize money.

I've renovated two houses, anyone who thinks it's as simple as they make it look is in for a rough ride.

They get the profit over the reserve price.
