Our mighty Blue Boys will not make the 8 this year. As much as I would love them to do so they have left themselves a daunting task to get there.
On the basis we need 12 wins to make the 8 and up to the 10th round we have won 5 & lost 5.
Therefore there are 12 more games left and we need to win 7 out of the next 12. Within the next 12 games we play St Kilda and Geelong. If we lose to both of those we are in a prediciment of needing to win 7 out of 10 to achieve 12 wins. I don't think we can do it especially with Waite out.
The only saving "maybe" that 11 games get us into the 8. If we can keep our high percentage then they may be a possibility.
Isn't it strange. We have 4 players in the entire squad of 43 players with names starting with "W" and they are all injured.....Warnock, Wiggins, Walker and Waite.

The comp is much more even this meaning 11 wins will most likely get you a gig. We don't have a tough draw really with us only versing the big two twice. Every other team I can see us beating.

Dumb thread. With our % and the way the top two are dominating 11 wins will probably see us finish around 6th or 7th. FWIW that's where i thought we'd finish before the season and it's still where i think we'll end up.

To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if we lost our next four. In the next month we have two interstate games, and the two in Melbourne are against sides we always seem to loose to. We could easily be 5 and 9.

I'm just about resigned to the fact that unless we can field our best team, we really have no chance, and at the moment we are a half dozen players from our best team.

I wan't the focus to be on having Warnock, Walker, Waite, Carazzo, Scotland and Grigg all out on the park come round one next year. Put the cue in the rack. Play the likes of Robinson, Garlett, Yarran and some of the other kids for the rest of the season so they can get some games under their belts.

Have one final shot at drafting some new tallant, and throw everything at 2010. Everyone says we are a couple of years away. We are kidding ourselves if we are any chance for sucess this year, and judging by Rattens demeanor in the past couple of days, I think he knows it too.

And we also have to play Essendon and St Kilda, who have humiliated us in recent times. This season ain't no different from the rest. Always lose to the same ****ing teams, and not playing finals. It's an obvious trend, that still hasn't and wont change this year.

That is loser mentality that only builds a losing culture. Success for a young team is belief. How can they win a premiership if they can not even believe the can make finals. The key to drafting talent is how you develop that talent! there isn't 3 good players in the draft a year .. there is plaenty of talent that can be picked with later picks.. look at geelong no number one draft pciks there. they are good becuase they have a winning culture and a winning mentality. Thats what our players need becuase we could easily be 8 - 2 right now if we knew how to win in tight situations that only comes with a high belief and good smarts when pressure and intensity is raised.

What I mean by humiliated is that the last three times we've played them, we've gone in favorites each time, and we've lost all three. I think it's extremely disappointing, the way we continually drop games we are expected to win. I know the margins have been close, but I'm still smarting over every single one of those losses. Nothing hurts more than losing to Essendon (and seeing Lloyd happy just makes me want to punch him in the face so much)

Have to agree with you though, nothing would make me happier than being able to pencil in a win against the Bummers in a few weeks

edit: and the reason I say "It's lights our for 09" is because I seriously believe we will lose our next four matches, putting us at 5 and 9. I just for the life of me can't see us beating any of these teams. And the way Ratts has changed his attitude since the Adelaide game, I think he knows we are in for a hard slog.

Well the 3 interstate games will be hard, though i reckon we will beat Freo over there, but we should be able to win all the games in melbourne. So the 8 is looking good for us. Our younger players will do good to get a taste of the finals this year.

I'm quite confident we should we win at least 8 of those above games.

I think we'll pip Brisbane, we beat them at home last year and we beat them earlier this year so we are capable.

Essendon, I think after letting them make us their b!tches we'll be pumped and wont take them so lightly.

Fremantle.. hey would've only been a few weeks since they humiliated us (albeit by under 2 goals)... if we're a team of men.. we'll get some revenge.. for that loss will still be relatively fresh. And if Richmond can beat them there..

Richmond.. they'll be pumped to beat us... but looks like Wallace could still be around.. already 2 wins, do they want to risk winning more than 4? I think they'll be tanking somewhat by then and I can't see them producing an 80+ point turnaround, especially without Richo.

Sydney, our home turf at Ethihad (which we seem to finally be playing well at.. undefeated there this season). Hopefully we'd have learnt from our mistakes playing into their hands and will play open fast attacking footy.

Collingwood... our b!tches of late.. and should still continue.

North Melbourne.. not the same North of years passed but that f'in shinboner spirit is frightening. I think we may finally get some redemption on that one.

Port Adelaide... like us a Jeckyl and Hyde team this year... lets hope we get the awful Port.

Melbourne.. Might be fighting for that number 1 draft pick (and ensure the PP) with your Richmonds and Freo's etc by that stage... they'll just be playing the kids you would think with 1 round to go.

Adelaide.. our home turf and I hope we'd want to redeem ourselves... tough game but we're not without our chances.

I hope you are wrong. Anything less than the 8 is unacceptable. that should be the primary objective this year. Expectations increase again in 2010. We are in the mix for the 8 this year and the rest is up to us. Don't make excuses about Waite and Walker. Most teams can point to quality players, and that is about as generous as I would get about those two, who are out injured long term.
