There is no doubting that the Bolton-Silvagni Alliance is the best tag-team we have had at the club for many a decade. Right now, things are on the up in all facets at the club and onfield success is expected soon enough if we are patient.

However, it worries me that one or both of them could be lured away by another club or even worse, a new regime gets into power and decides to make changes to the personnel around the club.

It is very easy to quickly fall back to old ways & down the ladder and as we are experiencing now, it takes a long time to turn it all around.

What steps can be taken to avoid a breakdown in the current 'good vibe' & effective management at the club ??

Is there a coup-de-tah still hovering behind the scenes waiting for chance to pounce ??

What happens if "The Log" has to stand down for personal reasons at short notice ??

Is the Mathieson Mob going to pop-up again when they can ??i

Neither will be poached in the near future and if an old school Carlton coup was to eventuate, hopefully our members are strong enough to fight it.

Yep this is where we step in, we do have a say.

To expect a 50/50 or better split of wins by carlton people would be sheer madness. We have some old heads at the club, but the majority of the group 22 and under.

This is another development year. Dont worry, they want wins. But they both want a sustained period of success. Wins bring more wins. But theres a gracing period we must meet first. We aren't there yet. We're close though.

As for SOS leaving. Zero chance.
Bolton i very much doubt would turn his back on his first coaching stint after 3 or so years. He is many of these boys dad. Him stating he nearly teared up re Docs injury shows how invested he is.

Good thread but it'll be a short lived thread. We are as safe as houses with these 2 at the club

I think the club is in a period of stability, the shakeup has been done. Now it's a bit of a waiting period.

Agree, after much suffering and groping in the dark we've reached a period of stability.
Our Board , Administration, Coaching and Development, Northen and Recruiting have all been reviewed with necessary changes made.
Fine tuning for next couple of years to maintain expected standards.
The old days are over, upward and onwards only is the norm.

This is the point, we are in good shape as long as those two remain but what happens if one or both disappear ??

What factors may lead to that change & how can that be prevented ??
Not sure why you’re asking this? Businesses are always evolving and changing. One or both could be gone in a few years due to various reasons. No one can predict the future. You can only plan to your best knowledge and make business decisions to the best of your ability. I don’t think anyone here has an answer to appease you.

Bring back Rogers, certainly not - all I’ve suggested is what I’ve heard, and that is there isn’t much communication between Silvagni and Bolton.
Will only be one winner there you’d think, not good to hear.

Our youngsters, supporters (for membership purposes if anything) and board need stability ATM, not old Carlton.

Does there really need to be?

Would have thought a couple of chats a year to tell SOS where he thinks the game plan is headed then Bolts leaves him alone to find said types.

A couple of weeks out from trade period and draft time, they could start to meet a few times a week to finalise strategy.

Don’t see why they need to be that close

What's the rumoured issue? Differences in list management strategy? Anything specific?

As I understand there is barely any alliance between Bolton and Silvagni.

Alliance may have not been the best choice of terms from the OP and collective (coaching / recruitment) may have been more appropriate.
The coach doesn't have to be in love with the LM, but they do have to have a workable platform.

Don't think for a minute that there isn't a bit of boys club still going on at the club and some agenda issues at hand.
There's no magic wand that will rid these issues and sometimes the butting of heads can also reap rewards. Maybe we get.....lucky

If anything happens, let's hope Bolts gets to keep the kids

I think people become too complacent at times, just think back to '95 and we had won a flag with Elliott at the helm. No-one ever wanted to challenge him or his ways and look what happened ?? We are only now climbing out of the shithole he dug for us.

You are quite right, no-one can predict the future which is why I believe everything should be constantly inspected, reviewed & enhanced.

I'd hate to see us fall down that hole again because of sheer arrogance, big ego's, complacency or crap management.

With the possibility of 2-3 Silvagnis playing in the AFL/VFL for Carlton at the same time, could Stevens position become compromised?
It will be hard for him to make decisions on who to draft each season knowing that such a move could make or break one of his kids careers.

Not saying it will happen but i could see him stepping back for a few years after he has steadied the ship.

Excellent point. :thumbsu:

If you believe the rumours, Father Steve stood down from all discussions regarding the drafting of Son Jack which is the honourable & ethical thing to do.

How much harder would it be if all three sons were at the club though, very interesting !!

I was also thinking along the lines of who we drafted with our 1st pick this draft. Would there be a sub conscious bias against a tall seeing it could push Jack out or Ben for that matter.

Its good that he stepped aside for the purpose of picking up Jack but what about picking up players that push his kids out?
