Credit to the coaching box today.

They did not leave the team as is but tried things - this would not have happened under Craig.

As a result they found out some things.

Andy Otten can play forward -he played there for Oakleigh.

Ben Rutten could be used as our anchor - and play at FF. He can take a grab and Hartigan could come in off the Rookie list for him at FB. Tex goes onto LTI list.

Jaensch is a dangerous forward and should be given an opportunity to play there. He can kicka goal and knowes where to run to.

I thought that our young defenders showed up some of more experienced hands in terms of intensity and decision making excpet for one or two errors - Talia, Smith, Brown and Rory Laird all showed the necessary vision and grit to play in this part of the field. Compare that with Riley today and it is striking. These guys can tackle and do not give away stupid free kicks and turn over the ball at will.

Ricky was soft and uncompetetive today - I counted 8 times when he was selective about going for the ball. The coaches changed him around andhe was better after half time running off half back.

Our backline is developing into a strength - but it will not be this year. We are getting the right people in place and only need to tweak - with Brown, Smith, Laird, Talia all there for the long haul andhe much needed pace present.

I would hope the selectors will take the same level of risk next week with the side. At risk are DMAC, Sauce, Reilly, Ricky and one or two others.

Time to give lyons a go and reward SANFL form as we did with Laird, Kerridge and maybe even give Rambo Tambo his fianl opportunity.

Josh Jenkins cannot ruck and Sauce cannot get off the ground. If we are going to get Brother of Corey back into the side this is the week to do it.

In the long term this loss will do us more good than harm. We need to be more flexible within the team and today has shwon that We now know that both Rory and Yaensch can play in the 18 if they play at opposite ends of the field. Otten can be an option for attack. Maybe we can even gets Pets on the ball as a defenesive or run with midfielder.

Pets doesn't have the tank for playing on the ball it and leaves his direct opponent free far too often...some time in the 2nds is on his horizon. Agree that the coaches after the loss of Tex and then Brown, showed some real thought and really apart from the first term disaster we stayed with them for the rest of the match minus our key forward and one rotation on the bench.

An honourable loss maybe.

Excellent thread. Thought the coaching once the horse had bolted was quote encouraging. It won't happen but would love to see at least one of McKay or Reilly get dropped this week, preferably permanently.

You learn more from your losses while winning, as good as it is, can hide a multitude of sins.
The adventurous coaching was as surprising as it was inspiring. If it continues this may be the best loss we have ever had.

I thought it was one of the best efforts in the coaches box in the Sando era.

With Tex down our structure and gameplan was shot to pieces. A few players were recast and our mids started to deliver th ball better to our "new" forward line. We lost by 32 points but could have stolen the game at the end.

One positive out of Tex going down is that we may have a more versatile forward line next week and be.less predictable. This could cause Hawthorn some issues.

Have to agree...was pleasantly surprised by the shuffling about and it did seem to make us less predictable and forced us to deliver the ball a little better to the forwards. The kicking actually favoured our forwards for a change, even though opponents were right alongside.

Salient.

Remember when Brett Chalmers got injured and Robran was moved from CHB to CHF, and Caven was moved to CHB?

The rest is history.

Injuries force coaches to think outside the square and reinvent the side, and can result in uncovering some real gems.

True, its just a shame is takes injuries for coaches to realise the obvious.

Did we really need somebody to get injured for Sando to realise Jaensch is better as a forward? These guys are getting paid hundreds of thousands of a dollars a year to make these decisions. Wake the **** up Sando.

Anyone think our (apart from Saturday) match day coaching performances this year are down as a result of Bailey not being there? and if so to me that is a very sad indictment on the way he was used at Melbourne.
