Courtney Dempsey, so much potential, however his physical condition may deny the poor guy an outstanding career. Personally i am still hopeful, though i have heard from some that they have given up on the guy, so the question is do you still believe in the Dempsey dream, or have you lost faith.

I would take a 50% chance of getting a fit Dempsey over a pick 60 something draftee. In fact, I would even reject a second rounder for this kid. If he can stay un-injured he will be a star.

There are some serious questions about his viability playing at the highest level - if he simply cannot get on to the park then someone has to make a hard decision.

IMO we simply cannot keep carrying perpetually injured players on our list.

FWIW, I still have high hopes for DC, he is still only 20 and I would give him another season or two at least.

Sean Rusling v2. Both have shown plenty when playing, but injury is destroying their careers. Hope you guys persevere with Dempsey, could be something special.

GL to them both next season. :D

Patience guys!
As long as he's with Essendon i'll always have faith in him!

have to agree you can't axe a quality race horse because he keeps pulling up lame.. Take over Target for example; I would be more worried if he didnt have the talent!!! he does and deserves his spot on the list regardless of being injured or not..

I think if anyone is thinking of having kids and wanting them to play for Essendon maybe don't name them Courtney. First C. Johns and now it looks as C. Dempsey is going to take the mantle as a player to never get fit.

Don't get me wrong, we have to stick with him, the guy is freakishly talented, but any more than two years more of this, well, then the dream is over.

Lets keep our fingers crossed that he has a good pre-season, puts on some meat and drinks liters of milk daily to keep those bones good and strong. If he can stay fit for a long period of time we should see a champion in the making.

He'll come good...

Knighta should take a different approach with Courtney and just steadily get his body into the main action through weekly intervals so to speak.

(eg. Play FP one week, HFF the next, then HBF possibly the week after.ect)

ahh actually you do dump a race horse if it keeps pulling up lame, you can't win money with a horse sitting in the stables!

with shortened lists you need every player to count, we can not continue to have 10-15 guys in the medical rooms every week. i think we are the only club where the rehab training group outnumbers the "main" training group!

Unfortunately Dempsey has been unable to string 3-4 AFL games together without breaking down.. this highlights that he obviously has some very big issues with his body. history is littered with stories of potential champions that just could never get on the park, across every country and every sport.

the second issue is how can you build a game plan, kick out drills, midfield plays, clearance set ups etc around a guy that doesn't play regular footy? the answer is you can't.. reliability is the key to successful footy sides, look at geelong and sydney for prime examples.

i think the kid does have talent but unfortunately all the talent in the world counts for nothing if he is sitting in the stands 60-80%+ of the time..

Two words guys; Jobe Watson

After three seasons;

Jobe Watson
03' - 1 game
04' - 7 games
05' - 5 games

Courtenay Dempsey
06' - 5 games
07' - 1 game
08' - 4 games

How would we all be feeling now if we had of thrown the baby out with the bath water back at the end of 05'. I remember a lot of rumblings about Jobe's body(he had a lot of soft tissue injuries), his best position etc. etc, but nobody was doubting his talent back then. All very similar things to what is being said about Dempsey(not necessarily on this board). You need to give talented players all the possible chances you can to succeed.

Persist with Dempsey he will be a star!
