As a ( pre-crows ) Pies fan , tonight hasn't stung me as bad as it has....geez , EVERYONE ELSE in the footballing world ( mind you it's still pretty ****ED !!! )

Just interested to hear your thoughts on what , or who made the difference tonight ???

Personally i think Mick " THE SILVER FOX " Malthouse was.
That's not a knock on Neil Craig either...some blokes just " have it " over other blokes.

The defensive efforts of our backline, combined with some out-of-their-skin performances by a couple of young players.

I genuinely don't get the Craig criticism. Any game decided by less than a goal is basically down to luck. Buddy misses, or JA's free isn't called, and Craig looks a lot better.

Fwiw, whoever works with your midfield structures deserves a raise. Your ability to run it out with numbers is second only to Geelong in recent memory. Had our defense been a bit suspect, or had your delivery been slightly crisper, you probably win this game by 6-8 goals. As it was, we managed to withstand the barrage of I50s and capitalize better on our chances.

We out-tackled you 69-38.

If the other team almost doubles your tackle count, you probably shouldn't even be in the game.

The reason you were is because despite the fact that we laid 31 more tackles, we got three less free kicks, which is not the way things normally go.

True, but how we got there is not really luck. If we were up by 5 goal in the 1st, I don't think it would've been that close at the end.

Yeah, I just think often when there's a close result like this one, there's too much of "_____ was just the better team" going on from losing and winning supporters alike.

Fact is, if a game is decided by under a goal, neither team was much better than the other, and the losing team has every right to feel shattered/unlucky.

I think the tackle count was more to do with chasing tail for majority of the first half then anything else. I can only remember a few tackles that actually had any impact on Adelaide early, eg Medhurst

Def agree about our young guys and the back line. Shaw, Toovey, Goldsack and Maxwell were all great after half time.

In the end it came down to one kick, Jack had the shot, if he missed we wouldve gone to extra time and probably lost due to fatigue.

Our tackle count was high all night, but our man on man pressure was woeful in the first quarter.

You can assess that game at all ends, but in the end it came down to a bloke with number 9 on his back, 45 metres out on a slight angle, with 45 seconds left.
