How many Ruck's can the Sweet FA leave out of the All Sweet FA team.

Season 39 is the 'Season of the RUCK'

Unfortunately there is only so many Rucks that will/can be chosen.

The All Sweet FA side only has about 5-7 spots up for grabs for the Plebs of the league, each season to begin with, which will make it very hard for the number of Rucks who deserve a spot to get in.

Can at least 3 Rucks get in? Can a Ruck sneak onto a forward position as well as a bench spot? Sadly I doubt it, but the whole of the Sweet FA need to know how dominant the Ruck fraternity were this season.

Here are some stats.

13 Rucks - filled the first 13 place in the Hit outs ( the main stat) this season. A Ruck finished #1 for Hit outs by a long way.

6 Rucks - were in the top 15 in DT points this season - 3 in the Top 5 spots. A Ruck finished Number 1 in DT points.

A Ruck finished top of the Disposal count in S39.


I could go into detail for quite a few Rucks who had stellar seasons, but to be honest it would look like I am pumping up my own tyres a bit, so I will leave it be.

I just want to champion all the Rucks in the Sweet FA, and congratulate all the 'Heart and Soul' players of each team for a season well done.

Maybe a second on the bench if lucky, you only really need one though.

Given we had forward pockets and wingman trade places with our ruckman without any loss of result, maybe we should just pick another midfielder and be done with it altogether?

We should name four in the side. Works for full forwards despite the obvious issues.

In the same way that full forwards kick more goals than forward pockets, rucks get more hitouts than wingers, and that should be justification enough for their inclusion.

Why have any other positions then? Just pick the 22 with the most DT points and be done with it, even if there is 12 rucks, 2 full forwards and 8 rovers in the side.

Precisely. I've always argued this way and against positional integrity, Jabba73. Not once have I suggested that perhaps we should consider different positions by different statistical metrics.

Would you be the type to object to adjusting the statistics for adverse weather conditions, just to ensure we really do get the best 22 from the season?

The ALL_SFA team will always have people missing out because there is always more than 20 people in a season deserved of it.

Big issue in determining who the 20 are comes down to your teams representative ability to fight and put up an argument in committee and the other teams representative attitude about players from other teams who they may have a personal dislike for and so try and sabotage the nomination. Many deserved players have not been in the all sfa list because they were either not nominated by their team or their team rep was soft as butter and didn't fight for them.


Personally most seasons the committee gets it 75% based right on who played in a position, got good stats and is up and about in the SWEET. The other 25% named and the other 25% that didn't is were the issue will always be. It can be stat driven but stats don't always tell the story or worth and lets be honest the playing stats are made up in a sim and has nothing to do with player engagement or effort.

Me personally I like serial_thrilla the elite 50 thread and nahnah top 30 most relevant poster threads and think all SFA should be based on who is relevant that season and then a team built from that list.

Some clubs just don't care that much about awards that are not reflective of a posters efforts.

If you have to beg or use quid pro quo to get "your" players into the squad, then you obviously need it more than those that simply follow the process and let the cards fall where they may.
