Okay our team is filled with awesome midfielders, but we still need to develop the youngsters, so who should be the 3 in the engine room with Porter/Hale next season? Is Stevens time in the middle up? Who do we rotate in their from the bench? Grant...Flank or Centre? Harvey Forward or Middle? What do you think?

In My Opinion Adam Simpson is our number one man, He would be dominating anyone else in this region for clearances, He had a league season record of 13 with Smokin' Joe in round 12, and Sam Mitchell equaled that a few weeks ago. Having this sort of player around the ball is vital, he is one of the best clearance players in the competition, and easily the best 3rd man up in the AFL. Adam Simpson is our number 1 middle man.

Our 2nd vital cog who has showed late this season he isnt afraid to get his hands dirty is Danny Harris. This 21 year old will throw himself into any contest for the good of the team, and when kicking forward somehow manages to hit forwards on the chest as they burst on a lead. Danny is our 2nd Engine Room Player in my opinion.

The last 2, pretty obviouschoices, now the third. In My Opinion, Brent Harvey. I know some name him in the forward 50, though his ability to carry the ball and break a line is so valuable to the team. He can take on his opponent, and 9 times out of 10 will defeat him. Boomer is fast, has good set of palms and those running torps are just awesome. Brent Harvey our number 3 Engine Room player for 2004.

The Sub: Anthony Stevens, In what I feel will be his lasty year of footy. 33 next season Stevo still has what it takes to play midfield football, but 120 minutes a game? I dont think his body can handle. I would love to see Stevo take on a new role this year in our backline and sub through the midfield, his ability to intimidate his opponent just by simply going so damn hard at the ball and putting everything on the line is champion like. This guy is still a value to the engine room.

Pinch Hitters: Corey Jones, Shannon Grant, Jeremy Clayton, Daniel Wells, Michael Stevens... One of tyhese players who ever suits the situation.

Notes:I would love to see Grant permenantly on a HFF, so dangerous around the sticks. And IMO Ben Robbins hasn't a lot to offer our club, don't see him playing much footbasll this year and thats if he isnt traded.

Development: Would love to see games with maybe injuries have occured, to see Blake Grima and Ash Watson step onto the plate, though I see Ash more a wingman Blake definatly a centreman.

Your thoughts?

I know it's been said before, but IMHO we need a tall midfielder in our mix. Someone who can provide more around the ground marking options (similar to Simpson). I am hoping that maybe Urch can develop into this type of player. Could take a couple of years though...

i dont care if they are tall or small, but what we really need is a midfielder with good foot skills. we can fill the 'tall midfielder' role with either simmo or jones, but i also feel that urch may be able to offer something in that regard too.
ive said it before, but we really need some more midfielders who use the ball well to compliment our new game plan.

This is why i agree with Benno that Robbins should be delisted /traded.He goes in hard but his foot skills are pretty ordinary.

We need to develope one of the kids next year,to take over from Robbins..

disagree with this, many feared that robbins may suffer from second year blues at north. he did to an extent, but i think he played some very important games and is a very handy squad player. would not demand much money so i think with his experience he should definitely be kept.
however, if a young midfielder (maybe grima or urch) pushes their way into the north midfield then i wouldnt have a problem with robbins being dropped to the port side, but i cant see the point in delisting him. he can easily fill a hole in the midfield if need be.

The north players seem to have a high opinion of Callum. Ive heard a couple of interviews where a couple of the senior group have said that 'theres exciting times ahead at the club' with players like Daniel Wells, David Hale and Callum Urch coming through....

Havent really seen him play much. Seems hard at it though.... The players are the best judges IMHO, so Im expecting big things.

YOTR is implying that Robbins provides more value to the club, than what his trade value would suggest. Hence we should keep him as a squad player whilst the younger blokes develop. Robbins is generally targeted on this forum as he is seen as taking opportunities away from Harro, Smith, Watson ect.... Rather than get rid of the bloke because of this, its good for the kids to fight for their spot.

Having said that, gimme the 3 mentioned above anyday, but Robbins still provides good value which is often underestimated, and wouldn't be worth trading him IMO.

I would rather Robbins was delisted, because you are implying that he is better to hang around the club and let the younger guys fight for his spot.I would rather the young guys fight between themselves, not with Robbins...

The only way these guys will be ready is to give them senior experience

I'd love to have Travis Johnstone at North. Let's give Melbourne all our fringe backmen for him.

spurs, you say i "stand up for him everytime" but you have been on this board < a month and i havent spoken about robbins in well over 2 months.

but i am prepared to defend what i said, robbins is a good squad player. this does not mean that he should be in our best 22 week in week out. what it does mean is that if we have injuries/form slumps of some other midfielders that he is a handy player to come into the side.

i would like nothing more then for harris, watson and all these young midfielders to take robbins' spot next year in the midfield. but my point is he is good insurance, doesnt cost a lot, wont get anything for him in a trade and IMO is too good and experienced a player to just delist.

he is not a star, but thats not what we pay him for, we need guys like robbins to become successful.

look at brisbane for example, they have hart and ashcroft, apart from being more experienced then robbins there is not a lot of difference between them. but they are all important players.

maybe when watson has put on a few kg's and wells, grima, urch and of course watson are playing more regularly in the midfield (whether it be end of next year or year after) then we should look at maybe off loading robbins.

I am worried YOTR. You want to keep guys like Robbins and Teague, but not punt on guys like Johnstone and Green, who individually have more talent and athletic ability than our two guys combined??

Teague and Robbins would barely make our best team, even at their best. Johnstone and Green would become crucial players in the team if they played at their best.

Sometimes you need to take a punt in order to come out in front. If it doesn't work, all we lose is a good bit player, but if it works, we could get a star.

i see what you mean, but going for guys like johnstone - who wouldnt be cheap, should not be a risk. i would want results and straight away if we were going to fork out for someone of his price/calibre. same applies for green.

once again, i dont care if robbins isnt in our best team!! i would prefer to see other youngsters in his spot in the midfield and would like to keep him as insurance.

to finish up, i never said anything about teague, but i dont believe he has much of a future beit at north or elsewhere. so what becomes of him, i dont know and dont really care. i doubt anyone would trade for him.

midfielder

To me a Pavlich type is the answer!

We could try a Firrito as a tall midfielder
and hopefully he could develop!

Dont know if he has the engine but there
is only one way to find out!!

Obviously D.Harris will take over the Stevo
role in and under this coming year!

Simmo/Harvey/Grant also changing
in forward line!

Thoughts out there??

Over + out
