Sitting at my desk at work, eating my cheap curry, and thought, wonder how the future looks for the Pies.
So I did a bit of research and chose players all 25 years old and younger – their respective ages in brackets.
Is this the future of Collingwood?

NOTE: Yes, they may not be in the right positions, just went on age and having played senior footy
Code:
FB Tooves(25) Browny(23) Keeffe (22)

HB Williams(18) Reidy(23)* Clarke (24)

C Sidey(21) Pendles(24)# Daisy(25)*

F Witts (19) Beams (22) Blair (22)

HF Wellers(24) Cloke(25)* Sack (25)

FF Caff(24) Dawes(24) Pain(19)

I Sinclair(20) Fasolo(20) Young (20) Elliot(19)
*All Australian # Pendles two times All Australian

You would have to think that so far this year Sidey, Beams and Pendles would be chances for All Australian. Perhaps 1, 2 or all 3.

Of course there are players out of position or that could be swapped with the kids on the interchange.
Cam Wood is 25, so was on the edge. Gave spots to players who have played league footy (I expect to see Witts this year due to what Hine said last night on The Club). Missed out on Ugle and Seedsman too.

Looks bloody good and it is scary to think that Harry O and Heater are 26 and Swanny and Bally [:hearts:] are 28 so still 4-5 years left in them.

And to think we were able to get this list whilst still maintaining a high level of performance over the last few years. Again, I say, sucked in everyone else. And the fallacy that is our "lack of depth" is hilarious.

Also while 2 new teams sucked all the best talent out of the drafts.

Definite suffer in your jocks to everyone else

Glad I don't sit near your desk (curry) :)

Caff and Witts are the only 2 I'm not sure about, but talk about outstanding recruiting and excellent player development.

I believe that player development and all the I.P that Collingwood has developed is now our greatest competitive advantage.

Exactly mate, ex-****in-sactly.

Shows what a strong club, powerful environment, successful team and professional people can create. And to think that our kids are coming on so bloody well and quick compared to GCS and GWS.

Put that in ya pipes Carlscum and Melbourne Footy Charity Club.

Glad I don't sit near your desk (curry) :)

The curry was grouse mate. The result was less gassy than expected ;)

Witts was in because he is so young and Wood was 25...hmm. And after seeing Caff bulk up so much maybe we don't have a spot for him? That would suck cause I loved him giving it to Dawson that stiff in 2010 replay

And too bloody right the club has created something incredible. The system behind the players, the business, the medical, the recruitment, even the ****in window cleaners are all top class professionals. All this off our own bat too. No pathetic handouts match the membership revenue we give to see this happen.

As all barrackers should.

already had some great times watching this team, its looking like its only just started!

We have haven't we mate?!

Even tho the ages make me feel old, it's a lovely ****ing feeling.

If I could stomach it, I would make a team of under 25s for the scum, bummers, tiges... Combined they don't stand a chance.

The future is black and white :D

And finally, for good measure, get stuffed to the other teams. We are lookin really good and I hope it hurts. Makes it hard to sleep. Distracts you as you pour the milk into your coffee, as it overflows and hits your fingers. A reminder that the Mighty Magpie Machine is gathering strength, building to something big... which damn well better ****in be some more flags :D

We've got a shitload of talent right there. Some players that are gonna be amazing in a few times. Go the Mighty Magpies! Looking like amazing times for a Magpie supporter in the coming years.

Caff's played in a premiership winning side and Witts is a 210 cm MONSTER.

You must be on drugs.

I tried but never inhaled.

EDIT: Apologies about the flippant response. I'll try to explain my thoughts.

Firstly, I hope they both do very well and enjoy long and successful careers.

The Caff's role was defensive pressure on the forward line. We now have Sinclair that arguably performs that role just as well. With the Krak to come back and Fasolo doing well, do we have the room for him?

Witts has plenty of upside that I read about but I've never seen him play so I can't be sure that it will happen. I hope the club can build him up to be Sandilands V2.

I trust this clears it up. Now I'm off to the 7/11 to get a Chokito and a Mars Bar as those munchies have hit bad...

We owe a great debt of thanks to Hine, for the outstanding recruiting he has done.

Sourcing players, basically for free in terms of draft picks, from less traditional areas, Keeffe - QLD, Witts, Young - NSW, Clarke, Mooney - Ireland.

Good use of the rookie list, Blair, Wellingham, Toovey.

Picking gems with less than ideal draft positioning, Goldsack pick 63, Sinclair pick 62, Fasolo pick 45.

Identifying outstanding prospects that other teams had the opportunity to draft ahead of us, but chose to forego, Sidebottom pick 11, Beams pick 29. Seriously, how did two players that good not get picked picked before they fell to us?

Using our choice draft picks wisely, Reid pick 8, Brown pick 10, Thomas pick 2, Pendlebury pick 5 (particularly Pendles, because that choice was derided by many fools at the time, but has been more than vindicated now).

^ Totally agree. We've recruited well.

I think our player development is just as critical. Somehow I can't see Beams and Sidey blooming the way they have if they were in a different club. Sinkers is another case in point.

We have the knowledge to create an environment that nurtures and develops raw potential.

GO WOODS!

You make a really good point about the development too. When the young players a picked for their first few games, they seem to step seamlessly into their roles and very rarely fail us. This is a massive advantage that we have over other clubs.

Could not agree more. As much as Hine has done a great job, his work is done when he calls their number on draft day. Our development system is 2nd to none. Having the money for an army of development coaches + facilities + Buttifant is the key - its no coincidence that poorer clubs like North and Footscray have struggled to get their youth to take the next step. Can you imagine if talents like Jeremy Howe or Hamish Hartlett went through our system?

which makes me happy to pay my membership fee each year - the knowledge that my $$ are going to build future generations gladdens my heart

I agree. I pay my fee every year and am more than happy what it goes to.

Gotta love having a reserves team that plays to the same gameplan too.

I'd say it's Goldsack that has taken on Macaffers old role. That said I think you undersell Macaffers worth. His one-on-one ability and contested work is really underated and really critical come finals. Macaffer is good defensively but what Goldsack and Sinclair offer is more pace, something i'm really glad to see Buckley has addressed.

Touche. The Caff's aerial ability was fab and he was strong 1 on 1. It's fair that in that sense Goldsack is a better comparison. I view Goldsack as a better kick of the ball as well as being more gifted with skills.

I guess when i mentioned Sinclair it was in terms of the pressure he brings to the forward line through his attack on the ball. Not a carbon copy of the Caff, more an alternative option.

You're right that the Caff shone bright in September. I hope the guy gets a break.
