Do you think the bombers future is looking good. who are our key aspects? When DO YOU think we'll make the finals? Who is dragging us down?

Well, depending on how quickly our kids improve and our running game matches those in upper echelon of the competition, Id say we're a chance for finals action next year. Backline needs some big bodies and our pace has to improve, as does our disposal under pressure.
Id be very surprised to see us stay in the bottom 4 for another year given the wealth of youth we have in our stocks, but in saying that...I wouldnt expect us to see any finals action till 08, with a view for 09/10 as another tilt for a premiership.
Regardless, if we can spread the workload evenly and not rely on the same few when the heat is on, no reason why success couldnt begin sooner...

i think 07 will be a very telling year for our next generation... it will be interesting to see how johns evolves and whether dyson, winderlich, slattery, dempsey and co step up after another preseason... we'll see if watson and stanton can keep on improving and whether lovett comes on...not to mention what comes of kepler... it will be a big year for the kids, thats for sure... should be interesting to watch..

For me, it comes down to the Pre-Season Draft. What the powers that be do there will either frighten me or give me hope. For now, I am so excited about next year. If Hird can stay fit for much of the year I think the kids will relish working with him and seeing what is required for greatness. As always, the book-ends in Lloyd and Fletcher will be vital, and as was mentioned above, Watson and Stanton in the middle stepping up even more. Improvement and consistency is rquired by many if we are to make the finals and it would be good for Hird to get one last tilt, but at the moment, I think it is probably a coin-toss.

At least this time finishing 7-8-9-10 will not be an exercise in treading water, at least this time we will be heading up! :thumbsu:

I think this years draft is the most important draft we have ever had. With Draft choices 2, 18, 20, 36, 42 and 47 in the best draft ever (or close to it) we must get it right. If we get it right we will have some very good players who will play for the Club for a long time. Along with the other young players that have been mention or will be mention by others our future should be fine.

Howerever if we completely stuff this draft up then we are ****ed.

I think the key between whether we become an ok team versus a serious premiership threat in the future is how well the key position players develop. If players like Lee, Johns, Laycock, Ryder, Bradley and maybe Pick 2 can become quality players then we may be a force. If all of our talls become duds then when Lloyd, Fletch and Lucas go.... well it won't be pretty.

I think we have very little chance of playing in the finals next year.
We are starting to develop a better team no doubt, but there still is very large question marks over some of our players heads and i also feel we have too many forwards and are very Brittle in defence.

imo, we should have attempted to trade Johns.
Depends on what we could have got for him and not to trade for picks but to get another defender.
Lucas's best spot is CHF, but he MAY be of better value at chb is we want to try Johns at CHF.

I have suggested b4 that we should try Johns at CHB, but none really agree with me.

I believe we are on the improve, but with our poor injury management, year after year, we will strugge again if we get them as we have no real depth anymore.

The future is on the up, just not as much as we would like next year imo.

I am excited for 07..
rip roaring ready to go!

I agree,
I'm saying 2009 for our next premiership,
but when Sheedy goes..it'll take a few years for the club to start over/rebuild..

Look guys,i am really excited about 2007! The picks in the draft are fantastic and some of those kids like Gibbs,Gumbleton,Hansen and Seller are ready to play AFL! Lloydy is back,JJ and MJ will come out firing.A strong pre-season from Ryder,Dempsey,Bradley will be good for them,Johns will be out to hold his spot and help Lloydy,Lucas and Hird out in the forward line. With others like Monfries,Stanton,Dyson,Hille,McVeigh,Nash,NLM,A.Lovett,Windelich and the rest,i really see a BLOODY GREAT TEAM running out next year!!!!!! Too many negitive and sad bloody people out there already writing us off! Essendon supporters also!! This IS a FANTASTIC club,a STRONG club,a PROUD club,a RICH and SUCCESSFUL club!.....:thumbsu: We are the MIGHTY ESSENDON FOOTBALL CLUB and WE WILL BLOODY STRIVE FOR GREATNESS ONCE AGAIN IN 2007!....Lets get behind the club AND all the players, buy a Membership and WIN AT ALL COSTS!.........:D

As for playing finals next year it will take luck with injury, steady improvement from our younger players and a perminant chb who can hopefully stop the gun chf from kicking more than 4 goals.

I think McPhee is our best chb. but i still like the idea of schooling bradley there still. He is big enough and reads the ball well so i would start him there again and have mcphee play half back and be the player that can get across and help out or maybe even play mcphee as a lose man in defense. The part i see bradley struggle is the indurance part. The hard running chf always eventually run him into submission.

The other worry is a full back if fletcher doesnt play for any particular reason.

oh and Adelaide over their in round 1:o

Too many negative Bomber supporters around these traps. Where has that trait come from?

We will win a premiership within the next 3 years. Mark my words people!!
Too many one-eyed optimists I'd say.

Maybe you should be on the board, take McKissock's job and spew crap like "Our KPIs are to make finals every year and win a premiership every five!" Some of us live in the real world, and are therefore realists. My opinion that we will not make finals in 2007 is not a negative comment. To not make finals does not have to be a bad thing. If Carlton aimed to finish 12th next year and did so, that would be a great year for them and they should take a lot of positives from that.

I like the fact that we have started to make tough decisions and delist players, and if not, put them on shorter contracts than we would have in the past. There is still a little bit of work to go there, and with more experience for our youngsters, and the injection of some hopefully talented young blood, we are moving in the right direction.

BUT. I can absolutely see no way that we will make finals next year, and I am not worried by that. I'll gladly take 10th (10-12) right now and be content with that.

I thought we'd make finals in 2009, but I'm now inclined to believe that 2008 is a possibility, not a certainty, a possibility. Our poor efforts in the last 2 1/2 seasons should not be overlooked. We didn't just have a disastrous 2006, 2005 was bad, and the second half of 2004 was just as bad. We've stunk for almost 3 years, and that won't turn around as immediately as Round 1, 2007.

You must be exposed to too many Tigers supporters.

Not that I can be bothered repeating my opnion again, but in a nutshell, our list is in much better shape than at least 6 other sides...and of a higher quality too.

So, Im predicting 10th will be our absolute lowest position we'll finish in next season. Ill even go as far as saying, our second half of the year will be far greater than our first...

Id suggest you throw $50 on us making the 8 next season...bet that'll change your perception quickly...

I said the same thing start of '06. It ain't that easy. Realistically we'll be finishing 9-14th.

Well it all depends on what you mean by,
"When DO YOU think we'll make the finals? Who is dragging us down?"
There the questions I'll ask if one the Board..

Also, is it bad to say I'd like to see improvement but not make the finals next year so we get early draft picks again...

We need to play finals as often as possible if this batch wants to win a premiership, otherwise we'll be waiting till 2016.

Not only to build a winning culture in them, but you need to play 3-4 finals series at least these days before a young group like ours is ready, maybe Stanton and Lovett-Murray have played 2 finals.

We can't be unrealistic like Hawks fans and think we'll waltz to the prelims and GF in our 1st trip to the finals just because they're 1st round picks are getting experience in the H&A season.

round one in 07 should be good when joel selwood debuts with 25+ touches in the middle and tears the game apart :D
