So where are essendon playing next week?? port douglas primary:p ??

The game had everything. Toughness, skill, but most importantly, it was a contest. Collingwood should've been a couple of goals in front, but who cares when you have a one point win! :D

Fraser, Tarrant and Rocca played shocking for most of the game, but they stood up when it counted the most. O'Bree and Lockyer played brilliantly, others did too.

It may be NAB cup, but a win is a win.

Skill? Everyone's skill was rusty as. Was a low scoring scrappy game. But what a game.
Not really many great highlights or goals but a great game, easily the best the NAB cup has seen ;)

I may be stressing the skill word, but who cares, we win and that's what matters. :thumbsu:

super super game. well worth going down to the dome to watch. i couldnt get the smile off my face seeing fraser, rocca and tarrant in the same forward line again. i liked what travis did in defence when he was down there, maxwell gave riewoldt a bath when he was on him, davies will play 22 games providing he is fit, o'bree is making better decisions, we will get enought hit outs outta stretch and josh, but the best thing i saw all day: 1st qtr, holland rans back into the path of hamill, almost marks it, gets cleaned up, 2nd effort to tackle hamill and get holding the ball. dal santo in the 4th qtr, could have done the same thing into rocca's path, but pulled out and pebbles got the mark. sure, he got a behind, but you know what i mean. and a fit and in form j.cloke in our defense, and we'll be much better. chuck clement and wakelin into today's defense, wow. good game, very encouraging.

Good game. Poor standard.

Promising...... Davies, Maxwell, Cloke J (kicking will always bug me though) Lonie (8 tackles  and a tagging job )

Rubbish and cant afford to be.... Swan, Walker (these 2 are seriously s***). Richards,

We looked further progressed than St Kild in our program and I think that helped us. Unfortunately if it were a H&A game I think wed have lost by 3 or 4. Our skills still suck.

Still, at least we gave a pretty good side some curry.

Thought I'd share my thoughts.

Pre-season game or not, to fight that hard for a win where the team of 2004-05 would probably not have been able to is a fantastic effort against a team who many say is the Premiership favourite. I thought our midfield brigade of Licuria, Holland and O'Bree were fantastic and help set up the win through fierce in and under work and relatively good kicking (at least those three anyway).

Riewoldt was superb however I think Nick Maxwell still did a fair job on him. Presty absolutely owned Gehrig, Tarks slaughtered that little rat Milne, and Fergus Watts had little impact on the game. Jason Cloke looked back to his best floating across half back and needs that confidence to get going in the season proper.

The midfield battle was an entertaining battle between Licca, Dutchy and Cheesy against the likes of Hayes, Ball, Harvey and Dal Santo. I was very worried when any of these four burst through a pack and surged forward but to our credit we nullified there attack in defence.

Players that deserve a mention:

Travis Cloke: Looked very comfortable down back in the absence of Clement. Would've liked to have seen him have a crack at Riewoldt, but his penetrating kicks from defensive 50 and contesting were excellent.

Ryan Lonie: Played anything but 'soft'. 8 tackles from memory and still looks oh so dangerous with that long left foot kick.

Dale Thomas: Didn't do a whole lot wrong except that goal he should have kicked, looks like he belongs in the big time though.

Chad Morrison: Worked very hard on a half back flank and did pretty well on Dal Santo when moved to him.

Finally, I think we can take a lot out of this game. Missing Buckley, Burns, Clement and Wakelin and beating the Saints minus Koschitzke at ANY time during the season is a fantastic effort. We can still play better though, our kicking at times looked very lazy and too many time did we handball around and create contests when we should have been in the clear.

I pray they'll televise the game somehow next Sunday when I head up to Queensland!!!

From what Ive seen, there have been plenty of skill errors by all clubs in the NAB Cup. We played against a team that is considered quite highly in regard to skill and class... And with most of their star players playing, they were not able to conjure up a victory...

The Pies have more to prove than the Saints... I dont think we would have lost that game had it been a regular season match.

Collingwood's Win Yesterday

I thought that it was great to beat a fairly highly rated team without Buckley, Burns, Clement, Wakelin, and R.Shaw, particularly when the win wasn't widely expected. Although there is plenty to improve on, it showed that Collingwood is capable of reproducing 2002/03, and without a dominant team as there was then, anything can happen.

I find it bizarre than Lonie got 8 tackles - cause on viewing the game yesterday, he seemed to be the only one whose tackles weren't sticking!

Lenny29, spot on. Ryan Lonie couldn't tackle a paper bag! Tackles shouldn't count when the player has been wrapped up by another magpie and Lonie joins in. He is hopeless at tackling and Chris Egan is just as bad!
