After seeing another one sided grand final again- what is the distance and the factors that we need to address to get to the top that a Hawthorn does so well? Are we their yet? Thoughts welcome- here are some ideas:

1. they recruit players based on needs- Frawley. we need an inside mid and ruck and flanker goal kicker. We have deficiencies.
2. thier players play consistent accountable footy- playing thier role- we have deficiencies.
3. Players are skilled and kit targets. We have deficiencies.
4. Coaching staff- focused and game plan- not sure about this, can dimma and team take us to the next level
5. Off field success- money management and membership- we are there.

One thing is for certain...in the race for the Premiership...their are no easy fixes...ala carlscum variety...just incremental hardwork improvements...
Put Hawthorn under pressure unlike the WCE efforts...expose them and you end up with another set of variables...

they recruit GOOD players who fill a need
Frawley is actually a good player even at Melb

Don't think we can compare ourselves to Hawthorn. They've won 3 in a row and not many teams are going to do that again. I also don't think their opponents over the last 3 years have made a good accounting of themselves either.

When it's all said and done - the Hawks are a finals hardened side and when the heat is on they lift. I'm not sure if the likes of Cotch, Lids etc are there yet.

This. I don't think I have ever seen a team who consistently play their best under pressure quite like the hawks

Clarko let slip a week or so ago that their players would be under more pressure at training than in most games.

Also, only excellent kicks drafted. Brad Hill was a slight exception due to his speed but even then Clarko sent him to the VFL for ages until his kicking, on both sides, was satisfactory.

They play the perfect brand of tempo footy. They know when to play exciting football, but also know when to compose themselves and wait for the best option to present itself.

Shaun Burgoyne would have to go down as the best "recruit" in the history of our game.
If we get Bennell and his return is half as good as Burgoyne's then we have exciting times ahead.

Hawthorn's leaders are consistently massive - physically and in stats - in big games. Hodge/Lewis/Mitchell/Burgoyne/Roughhead/Gibson all had 25+ possessions... again.

Have to wonder how many of Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne & Gibson will retire if they don't win a flag next year
Looks like Lake & Hale will be gone after this year already
Not sure if the players they have coming through can cover those losses

Remember how his knee only had 2-3 years max left in it?

Ian Stewart went alright.
