I was just browsing through the National Drafts of the past, and happened to stumble across our deplorable recruting in 97 (Ayres era).

15. Geelong - Joel McKay (Murray U18)
29. Geelong - Mark Woolnough (Southport)
38. Geelong - James Rahilly (Geelong U18)
54. Geelong - Justin Wood (Tas U18)
61. Geelong - Tim Finocchiaro (Eastern U18)

Yes, we didn't have the best picks to work with. And ideally, had the circumstances been fitting, Woolnough might have made it. But, it is our second father-son that most impresses me. He really is the pick of the crop.

45. Geelong - Matthew Scarlett (Geelong U18). Like little Ablett, a deadset steal

Wasn't McKay's career ruined through injury? (I know this happened to Woolnough, who never gave up trying).

Poor Wooly. Not only was a promising career recked by injury, but the 6 times he put on the hoops we lost every time.

Yep,a back injury.I think he's back home playing in the WAFL.

Oh, and my boy Timmy F also had his career ruined by injury/illness. If he'd not been struck down, he'd be still playing AFL football.
