Ok we've all heard about how Jake King done 300 pushups or there abouts. I have been hammering the push ups lately with added weight too so it got me thinking has anyone here had a decent crack at this number?

It would require someone with a decent power to weight. Wondering if any of the regular trainers had given it a go.

I'd like to see his form towards the end. It's not impossible (obviously) by any stretch of the imagination, but I'd say it's kinda pointless.

You're going to have to be doing a lot of pushups to train to do .. more pushups, but I guess if you're after that sort of thing.

I don't think I'd come anywhere near it, maybe 50-60 decent pushups at best? But I'm also bulking as much as possible right now and, whilst a lot stronger now, also a lot heavier. You're right, you'd definitely have to be at your peak power/weight ratio to knock out something like that I reckon.

I managed 120 (once). Can get to 100 but couldn't push much past that these days.

My early career was in the military so I would shudder to think how many push-ups I've done in my time.

On the topic of push-ups, our footy coach tells us to do 100 push-ups every day (in whatever amount of sets you like) on top of our 2-3 weight sessions per week. Is there actually any benefit to this?
Wouldn't it just inhibit the recovery of your muscles from your weight sessions?
Only thing I can think of would be to kick-start your metabolism early in the day?
Cheers boys

thanks to having inverted elbow joints, I can't do push ups effectively or erven properly  :(.

Jake King has no fat on his torso and has obviously worked hard on his arms. Both very important. He's also quite short but saying that more than 100 excellent 200+ hot damn and 300+ is crazy talk!!

As for the doing 100 every day, I'd be wary the days after an intensive arm workout.

I wish i could do pushups. For some reason my right shoulder clicks heavily when my body goes in the downward motion of the pushup. My form is fine I know but still clicks really bad and is uncomfortable. Any ideas??

I used to get a clicking noise and some discomfort when I would incline db bench press. Also a fair bit of discomfort (not pain necessarily, more of a deadness which made running difficult) in the shoulder through running and that motion.

I find doing some stretching and light weights in a warmup helps, obviously a little more difficult if it's just pushups. The main thing was some massage of the nerve/whatever that was moving around. I could definitely feel that something was slightly out of place anyway, and massaging the area fixed something that was, at least when benching, crippling me.

well considering his size his range of movement would be significantly smaller than most other players in the afl.... i think after about 100 he would doing some "form questioning"
pushups....one pushup for say...... travis cloke... who is a burly indivisual would take twice as long to compleate due to the length of his arms and weight.... nothing new here for most of u i imagin...

It's going to make a difference, but not 150-300.

You're right though, but you can apply it to weightlifting. The pushup is obviously similar to the bench press, where people with smaller arms are advantaged by not having to push the weight as far - or, where you've pointed out, doing pushups you don't have to push as far.

Either way, 300 pushups is a damn decent effort.
