Laa Chol died in the early hours of Saturday during an altercation between two groups in a short-stay apartment on A'Beckett Street, in Melbourne's CBD.

A group of young people had rented the apartment where the dispute broke out. Senior police have dismissed suggestions the killing of the 19 yo university student was related to warring factions within Melbourne's African Australian community.

Police are still searching for those involved.

Do you think it's a bit less than ordinary her death has become so politically highly charged?

To the fore though, I hope the cops are keeping an eye on international departures and who's trying to get out in a hurry.

Sunshine north nice place .

Doesn't bother me walking through Sunshine or anywhere in the western suburbs really. I won't drive a flashy high end car through some parts there at night though.

In court today. It might go fairly quiet for a while now.

Flanked by two police, the teenager sat with his head down for much of the proceedings, except to acknowledge the magistrate.

His mother and brother were also in court.

As he was led out of court he briefly looked up to nod at the media and onlookers.

Police asked for ten weeks to prepare a brief for the case due to the large amount of evidence, including 50 hours of CCTV footage and many witnesses.
