A recent 'age' interview had kylie saying that the neighbours cast were guesting on a Fitzroy benefit show way back when (must have been the late eighties)

They did the 'locomotion' as an encore and some record hack suggested she record it.

The rest is history. A shame fitzroy couldn't get her as a major sponsor (gold lame shorts anyone ?) - her small change would have fitzroy still functioning as a competitive club

Anyone want to comment on the Kylie connection ?

I was there when Kylie sang the Locomotion. It was 1986 at Festival Hall.

She came back the following year to a Fitzroy do at the Dallas Brooks Hall. By this stage, she was an international star. I actually met her that night & she seemed like a really nice girl. She didn't seem at all affected by the publicity she was getting.

I remember someone telling me and reading somewhere else, that around 1995, George Harrison (of Beatles fame if anyone's heard of them

) was an honourary Fitzroy member. Does anyone know anything about that??? Thanks.

*1 Re Kylie she appeared 12th July 1986 and sang a duet with John Waters "I've got you babe" her first ever live singing performance.
*2 Re G Harrison he was supposedly coming over for the Beatles Shop in Chapel Street in myself and Doug Hawkins were designated by Fitzroy to meet with him but, bugga nothing happened.

Bert Newton won ALL the raffles that night. Stephen Cummings was a Roy Boy - stood with him on a PARTICULARLY cold afternoon at the Junction.

I , with a whole gaggle of gibbering loonies ,was with ( coincidentally )all those Cop Shop people at the 96 Elimination at VFL Park - got a real 'fog up' squashed in under cover and I scored a big love-hug from Paula (?) Duncan on the siren ( I wasn't alone but Waverley can do that to you ). I think she was wearing a coat made from some slaughtered species 'cause I recall wondering why I had all this hair in my mouth a few hours later ( or was it one of those bloke dreams ... ). I think I can speak for all of us when I say that evening lasted a very long time.
