Without Naitanui firing our midfield has all the same holes as it did over the last few years.

We lack elite inside mids and it was shown yesterday as we got done too easily in the contest and spread.

What does Simpson do? Back in the players we have? Trade in?

How do we fix our biggest weakness?

yeo has struggled to get involved over the back half of the season but we saw early on that he can be damaging when he backs himself in. being thrown down back too often due to injuries probably didn't help.

redden and jetta would find a place in my best 22, with the likes of mcginnity, hutch, scooter the obvious omissions.

would love h.bennell in but don't see it happening.

shuey and gaff are fine and on the whole the mid group more than held their own throughout the year based on a solid gameplan and a willingness to work for each other.

capitalising on nicnats aerial dominance at clearances needs to become a priority.

hopefully sheed and duggan get games.

Yeo needs to get a lot better if he's going to be in the middle permanently. He was crap yesterday and was for the last few weeks. Like him a lot but let's not kid ourselves, he's a long way off being the answer.

Yeo has to get better!? lol
but priddis does'nt (he can't anyway)
if Yeo was "crap" yesterday what was priddis? Why is he always the sacred cow in our midfield
I've said it before and I'll say it again a billion times - in today's footy you can't play such a limited mid as Centre or within your 1-2 top followers.

Yeo, Shred, Duggan, Shuey, Gaff, Hutch all have improvement left. I'm not overly concerned about the midfield, as long as we continue to give our players more flexibility. Sheppard, Wellingham, Nelson, Cripps, Darling etc. Should all be running through there at times.

Don't know if Jetta or Redden add much to be honest.

Improvement under Simmo has been immense, 9th to 2nd.....if he keeps this up there really is only more spot for us to jump.

All the lads will be better for the experience. Simmo included. Good times ahead lads!!

If we get the list 5-10% better we will be a chance next year fo shiggers.

i won't cry if we miss out on both and have been fairly uninspired about the possibility of adding jetta given his recent form...

but i'll admit his best form is quite special. i think the hawks model of topping up with quality free agents has some merit if you back your coaches to get the best out of other club cast-offs. sort of like we did with ellis, j.bennell to an extent (c.morton not so much), varcoe at pies etc...

redden didn't have his best year but can play the game and would add toughness, at least.

time to take advantage of our club ascendency in luring some quality FAs to a (now) desirable environment.

A good inside mid should be a priority this trade period. Good thing we already have some interest from Redden. Hopefully a gun WA player can be convinced here on the back of our great form.

Bennell would certainly help - he should be considered, but I wouldn't be upset if we reject him on the basis of research and judgement of bad character. My concern is that he just doesn't seem to want to buy into a team ethos - wants to do it all his way.

Yeo had 5 disposals. Close to WOG.

Well it seems that you will be a pretty unhappy man for the next couple of seasons.

The growth will come through more experience for Yeo and Sheed, And hopefully Duggan can break in to the 22.

Not hopefully, definitely!!

Reckon Simmo would have played him yesterday if fit - he would have stood up as well. Oozes leadership.....reckon he is our Luke Hodge coming through the ranks!!!! Another gun decision by Simmo.

Development of Yeo, Sheed and Duggan is crucial.

But I still feel we are short the out and out gun that all premiership teams have. Shuey the most likely, but there is Gaff can turn into a bit of Sam Mitchell type general in terms of ball use. He'll never be as strong at the contested ball as Mitchell.

Especially with the development of the above three we clearly have enough depth in the midfield, even more so depending on how the recruitment of Redden, Jetta and Bennell goes (the latter plays very limited midfield minutes)... That would mean on any given weekend we line up with probably 10 guys who can start in the centre bounce or on the wing.

The other thing is the second ruck position. We really need Lycett to come on. I love what Sinclair does and I love his perseverance to get an AFL roster spot. But there is a clear drop off in the ruck when NicNat needs a rest. A massive drop off actually. If we can't fill this role from within we need to go the Hawks route and trade for a role player.

Note to self: never click "show ignored content".

Yeo needs to be there full time.

Gaff needs to get bigger.
Gaff is fine IMO. Yeo full time mid? Abso****inglutely!
I will echo what some others have said and we need a big inside mid. Sinclair was poo yesterday, fumbly as all get out. He wasn't the only one.
Having two Nic Nats would be a dream but damn near impossible.
Sinclair/Lycett have yet to hit their peak. I will back them in.

What compensation will we get for Scooter (if he goes )? Could we bundle those two picks for an upgrade to draft another midfielder ? Or use one of them for Redden (so that it's essentially Selwood for Redden!)

Should we trade Sinclair or Lycett whilst they still have some currency ?

I read yesterday that if Selwood gets a contract of around $400000 a year we are looking at pick 35ish which useless. Unless we can use that pick for Redden or Jetta we are better off matching the cats offer and keeping him.
