Saw this today and I think it's one of the greatest horror movies of the past few years. Really interesting to see Frank Darabont take on Stephen King's horror after nailing "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Green Mile".

The whole cast led by the uber cool Thomas Jane is excellent. Plenty of action and gore to keep genre fans satisfied but the most intense moments are those without the monsters. The poster for John Carpenter's "The Thing" in the opening sequence gives a warning for the type of movie that's ahead and it's really about how we would act in a situation where the shit hits the fan.

Don't go into this expecting a fun horror film. It's pretty heavy going and you will walk out of the cinema feeling like you've been punched in the stomach. Remember the mood you were in after "No Country For Old Men"? Similar feeling to that. And I haven't spoiled anything.

Go see The Mist, because it'll probably be gone from theaters in a couple of weeks.

Apparently the ending isn't good though?

I wouldn't say the ending isn't good. It's just that it leaves you feeling horrible. I understand that's the intention of the film so I really liked the ending. I think most people will confuse being satisfied/unsatisfied with a good/bad ending. Just because you feel crap after watching a movie, doesn't mean it was bad. That's just dismissing the film without giving it the respect it deserves.

I agree fantastic movie, really made you think what would you do in these certain situations. also the creatures from the mist were very cool!

One of the better horror movies ive seen in a long time.

the 13th warrior is the best movie involving mist. :D

I'm really wondering why there aren't making more movies like this! What is in more interesting than the history of the Scandinavian countries? What is more fascinating than the tales of Northern myths and their legendary Gods?? Well, in my personal opinion, nothing is and that's why I was so enthusiast when I first heard about this Thirteenth Warrior being released! And even though I'll admit the film is flawed on several levels, I enjoyed it very much and I'd like to encourage as much people as possible to find out more about the North men and their intriguing history. Co-producer Michael Crichton who also wrote the screenplay bases the 13th Warrior on his own `Eaters of the Dead' novel. It's a tale of a banished Arab man who joins twelve North men on a conquest against an ancient form of evil. He learns their language and becomes a warrior during the journey, he fights along against the `Wendol'…These are giant bear-like men who're extremely violent and savage. The good thing about The 13th Warriors is that it contains multiple impressive battle sequences and extremely interesting characters. For example the leader of the North men - Buliwyf - who's a truly overwhelming personality. The costumes and geographical settings are breath taking and perhaps even the most succeeded aspects in the entire production. And, of course, you can't tell a Viking tale without the use of explicit violence…the battles are pretty gruesome and the shed of blood is enormous. I didn't have a problem with that, though. I even love it but it might be something to keep under consideration when you have a weak stomach and you're planning to watch this film. Yet, it's only fair that I name a few of them negative elements The 13th Warrior suffers from. The largest parts of the script – and especially the dialogues – are very poorly written. The film also desperately tries to insert humor that is painfully unfunny and even embarrassing at times. Even the entire last battle scene may have been skipped since it's too heroic and a bit too much. Terrifically shot, though. Antonio Banderas will never be a class-A actor, neither…luckily for him, the accent works out well enough in stories like this. Nonetheless, The 13th Warrior is good entertainment and the background of it is food for education! Vikings rule!!

Do you know what a SENTENCE is?:eek:

And no I am not talking about a Prison term.

It was ok.

I thought some of the acting was pretty deplorable especially when the spiders come out and one of the red necks keeps on screaming, lost it for me there. The lady who plays the extremist religous character does a good job. Your right though the ending truly does leave you feelining horrible

Saw this yesterday and it was OK. I think Frank Darabont is an absolutely terrible director, but in his first non Oscar-bait movie he improves out of sight.

Thomas Jane is a legend, as always, and the fact that I wanted to throw things at Marcia Gay Harden's face for the whole movie is a testament to her acting ability.

SPOILERS

I admired the bloody minded pessimism of the ending, although it didn't make a lick of sense. There is no way on earth they'd submit so quickly to a suicide pact the moment they ran out of petrol. They would have waited in the car for as long as they could possibly stand it, on the chance that the mist would clear.

Watched it yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Reminded me of some of the Romero movies where the breakdown of humanity inside is as scary as the monsters outside...

The ending worked for me.

Just watched it and thought it was a very good movie.

When I heard about the ending being 'bad'
I thought they were all going to get killed as they were trying to leave the super market. But as for the real ending it was kinda funny because it was so morbid. I wouldn't be surprised if the DVD had an alternate ending where they're found before they're killed.

Did anyone else find it weird that they were driving away from the tanks.

I agree with you raman in regards to Marcia Gay Harden, I was constantly yelling SHUT THE **** UP!!! at her :D

Just saw this last night and I loved it, easily one of the best horrors Ive seen in a while and the ending....still had me chuckling today, I honestly dont know how I feel about that ending.

Marcia Gay Harden played her role so well, me and my mates were constantly abusing her, top flick

Just caught it on Foxtel. Absolutely chilling! I LOVED IT!

Man, that is some damn classic horror. I felt absolutely sick. The premise was just suffocating from the supermarket till the end.

Marcia Gay Harden was brilliant.

Thomas Jane is an awesome bad ass and the dude that played Ollie deserves kudos as well.

I loved the ending! Suited the premise well IMO but i can see why alot would of hated it.

Some of the CGI especially the first sighting of the monster was pretty lame and some so so acting but it doesn't detract much.

Great movie.

Agree with most here The Mist is a great Film. Stephen King has the best imagination ever! The book is brilliant and you cant put it down once it gets started. The movie adaption was excellent and did the book justice which doesn't allways happen. Must see. :thumbsu:
