Throughout last year, I was seeing Astbury as a great option both forward and back. But after a solid stint down back in the second half of the season, I'd really like to see him tie down the CHB or FB role for this full season.

Definitely agree Posty will spend time both forward and in the ruck, as he showed quite a bit late last year playing that role. I guess Vickery is cut out for the same position, so don't know if we will see them both in the team at the same time.

Keep in mind that, all though all the talk has been about using the emergency for a 2nd ruck, with us being in a development phase, I have no problem if we use it for testing out mid-field depth, etc... to give young guys a run, etc.

Post really needs to work on his kicking, particularly his set shots if he's going to play forward IMO. He has a nice pair of hands and isn't afraid to jump at a pack and has shown he can ruck fairly effectively too. Just needs to grab a bag of footys and spend an hour or so a day kicking at goals with the ipod on like Reiwoldt did.

Astbury to be our Lake would be awesome. Mainly stay down back but if the goals are drying up or one of our main fwds gets injured then he can move up there and provide and option too.

the thing about post is his hands aren't as great as most think. he made his career of his richo being the perfect man comment. nowhere near what people made him out to be, i dont think he will last if he doesn't come good this year and the depth of change he needs to make is big, thats just the way it is.

Dont agree with this, jaydens marking is excellent & will prove that in the next couple of years, went through a rough patch last year with confidence & the new shape of his body with diffrent dtnamics etc.

People seem to jump on players if they dont become stars in 2 years & as mentioned in threads 1000's of times before kpp take time.

JR8 is an exeption and has come on very early (we are lucky) but these kids take 4-5 years jayden 7 tyrone have been at the club 2 years for gods sake.

wait untill 2013 before writing them off,Not all players are Franklin & Riewoldts.

Post has not developed the skill of body use , and last year he didn't dhow any signs of improving in that area , which is a tad concerning . Yet JAcks body on body work improved out of site !!
The fact we haven't gained anymore KPP players, yet with inclusion of X, appear to have 3 ruckmen, capable of going forward , I think it's a Monty that we will have a ruckman play forward and Posty will be used a possible backup KPD and at times 4th tall in the forward line when Griffs fit , with this in mind the side could look like ?

Farmer Gourdis Moore
Newman Astbury Delidio
Edwards Cotchin Morton
Houli Griff Post
King Reiwoldt Vickery

Graham Martin Foley

Int : X, Grigg, Conca Sub: Connors

Emerg : Tuck , Jackson, Nason, hicks , Webberly , O'Reily, , Thursty, McGaunne

Best thing about a side like this is the commencement of players with some sort of quality, ain't in it ?

...maybe your right...
...just not sure if thats how the side will line up next year...
...pre season form will have a lot to say about the fiinal 22 line up...
...early days just yet...
...i'm really looking forward to seeing who has bulked up, the development of skills, team spirit, who has toughtened up in mind and body, no niggling injuries, and the out and out confidence of young players to achieve big things, buzz and excitment...

I like it, but that forward line is way too tall
The defence needs another tall though. I think all 4 of our ruckman look promising although Derekx hasn't played a game. I actually think Browne is the most promising because he has shown he can take strong overhead marks, he gets up highest in the ruck contests and he also gets under the packs and feeds the ball out

That's the benefit MT swap Post and Connors and all of a sudden the forward line changes dimension from going top heavy to having the flexibility of post being a back-up to play as a tall defender . At times in 2010 We where forced to go into games way to small and the team balance was completely up the poo !!
This year presents the opportunity of greater flexibility ?
I'm also not sold on Houli, Connors , Vickery or Edwards, but we have available options who aren't included in that side who can fill their role , yet be a different type of player ?

This simply won't happen, 3 ruckman, plus Post and Griff at half forward,as someone else said- way too tall. We need a forward t around 191-192 playing half forward to complement Taylors lightness with a big engine and talent and complement a bigger tall but we missed Steinberg and those type of half forwards are very hard to find.
There are still quality issues with this list as well

Reasonable points and in error I didn't include Taylor, which makes me even happier . Out goes Houli and Vickery for Taylor and Nason , should we choose to go for smaller FL .

Post put on a fair bit of weight. Will take a bit of time to adapt.

Think Post could be an excitement machine. Every game he's played he's almost gone for mark of the century. He moves well, has skill on both sides. With more game time and confidence i think he'll be pretty exciting. I think he's best suited to half forward/half back. Where he can run a bit. I don't think he feels comfortable as a main target in the goal square, well not yet anyway
