A new album and tour is being released this year for their 50th anniversary. Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne) is producing the album, so that fills me with confidence about its quality.

They were under rated because they weren't taken seriously, but they were quality.

The Monkees produced great pop tunes that stand up still today. They had access to the top songwriters of the day and had a massive publicity machine behind them.

Top session musos helped out on their first album.

Contrary to popular belief, Nesmith and Tork were accomplished musos who'd been on the band circuit for years.
 
An ongoing bewilderment as to how The Monkees are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
