Played a cash game at home with mates.

I was delt KK

Mate was delt AA

Flop, K K A, Putting me on quads, him on full house.

He raises all in, ($64)

I call..

turn, 6

River, A.

I then drove back down to the ATM :(

We had a cashie last night at home with a few people.. I was spewing!!
I got dealt Q9 suited and a guy raised 5 bucks preflop. About 5 people called him because he was a bluffer and knew he probably just had an Ace. The flop came 3 Q 5 .. He bet 5 bucks.. I called him because he had been bluffing all night and i knew he wouldnt have much and I had top pair.. A couple of others called him also so there was a pot of about 50 bucks so far.
The turn came, another 5.. He bet $10.. One other guy called and i ummed and arrrd but called him also.
The river was something that didnt really matter but made it possible that there was a flush there.. He checks.. THis other guy decides to bet $15.. The original guy folds that made all the calls.. (knew he had nothing!) I sat there for about 10 minutes wanting to call him but just couldnt figure him out.. There was a flush out there and possible he could also have trip 5's.. So with a $70 or so pot i lay my cards down and fold.. Something told me to call but I didnt. I didnt wanna part with another 15 bucks knowing he could well and truly beat me if he had a 5 or two hearts..
He breathed a sigh of relief and turned over K 10.. He had nothing.. I couldnt believe it! GOt bluffed out of a massive pot.. Good play by him though. But gees i wish i had called now! lol

I lost with pocket queens three times tonight, on the river each time.

I thought that was pretty unlucky, especially as I flopped a set two of those times

i had a pretty unlucky night last night, was just playi8ng home game with 4 other people. it was no limit and chips were worth a dollar each, the total pool at the end was only $200 but still thats a nice win. so i have about $80 in chips and am killing everyone, i have A 10 off suite so i decide its worth 3 bucks and 2 people call, the flop comes Q something 9 so i had a inside straight draw and think cool so i bet $10 and he raises 5 and i call, next card is worethless to me and he bets 10 and i call, so i have nothing here and am clinging to a straight. last card comes out and no i have a pair of 10s, im pissed off here but think i could win this and bet 5 he raises 5, heres where i should realise hes got me beat but i call and he comes out with Qs, so there i lost something like $50-60 and am pissed off and have 20 left.

after that i worked my way back up to around 50 and am up, then comes another straight draw off the flop and i end up losing about 20 of that hand, straight after that i have another straight draw and lose it again. ended about $40 which isnt to bad but am pissed off with what could of been if i had of played more conservatively. i guess in the end its good experience.

A backdoor inside straight draw as I read it. You needed a J and a K/8 to complete it didn't you?

Had a similar situation in a game I played a few weeks back, even though it was a free league, it still hurt to loose.

I was second in chips on the table, had about $4000 to the chip leaders $5500.

Dealt pocket aces, and the chip leader reaised to $600 (blinds were $150). I called.

Flop was Ace (clubs), Ace (Diamonds) and Four (Diamonds).

The chip leader was first to act and asks me how much I had, I almost laughed when he asked me, as I was thinking "How much do you want to give me?". He raises $1000 so I raise to All In. He calls.

When he shows his 5 - k (diamonds), I still did not even see the straight flush coming, but as you will have already figured out........ Three of Diamonds followed by the Two:o

Thems the highs and lows of Poker I guess.

ouch

the old 0.01% play or 1 in 990 by my calculations

i might have wrote down the wrong cards, i was drinking that night so im not exactly sure of it, the main thing i remember was getting like 3-4 straght draws with 2 cards still to come and losing them all.

4 straight draws with none winning sounds about right.

4 outs with the inside straight draw or 8 out with the open ended straight draw.

Is it only in certain forms of poker that you can make a straight from k-4 or Q-3 etc? I was of the understanding that the A could sub as a 1 for 1-5 and that was all? I actually had a straight with Q K A 2 3 but no one in the game was sure and I rang a mate who plays a bit and he said the A can substitute as a 1 and thats it.

Can anyone confirm this?

You were correct.

An Ace can be used as a "1" only for the "wheel", which is A-2-3-4-5. You cannot use A for something like Q-K-A-2-3, or K-A-2-3-4 etc. So your Q-K-A-2-3 is merely "Ace-High", or 2-3-Q-K-A, and not a straight.

As Crosby said, an Ace can play low or high in most games, but it is always the end of the line. Played low, it is the lowest card, play high, it is the highest card.

A-2-3-4-5, Ace is low

A-K-Q-J-10, Ace is high
