I did refer to this on the pos/neg thread but thought it was fairly relevent after watching the Bombers and Woods display a fair turn of foot.I think Venables,Ryan and Petrucelli should eventually come into this side.As part of this thread i wonder what people think of playing Petrucelli in the backline? If we are vulnerable anywhere it is being scored against out the back. His extreme pace and clean ball handling would be a big asset down there.

As his fitness grows, I think he develops into an attacking wingman. I think we would get the best of both worlds there. Someone who can work back to get the ball at half back and push forward. Perhaps not the right comparison, but Peter Matera would be who I would be moulting his game on.

He may go to HB in spurts but I’d much prefer to see his pace being utilised offensively and make his man accountable to him rather than the other way around.

Regardless of where he ends up he is a really well balanced footballer and could well be the cheap buy of the year.I just feel with Ryan and Venners being mainly forwards we do lack genuine pace down back

Think Pet played in defence last year at times.

We are a high kicking side, especially when we transition forward and the problem with Pet is that his footy iq and foot skills aren't that great atm and will be a liability in defence.

Pet has a great goal sense, and will stay forward of centre at senior level until developing more defensive accountability. He could develop into a rebounding option, but currently lacks the smarts to safely play off his man.

His defensive accountability is his greatest strength, only played afl for two seasons before getting drafted.
Has great scope for improvement.
Played in defence all last year in the TAC, was very good intercept mark in the TAC.
His field kicking is getting better and better.

True, but the development needs to come at AFL level. You'd think he needs a while to adapt to the team defence.

Will be a player I’m sure but will take time.
Will get an opportunity every now and then when injury hits but can’t see him being a permanent fixture for a year or so. Still an exciting prospect though.

Interesting thoughts. Maybe instead of Nelson coming in for whoever of Jetta/Duggan/Cole is injured next he could come in instead for a game to see how he goes there.
Only role he could replace is Jetta's. Cole and Duggan on the other hand are very good defensively and 1v1.

Can we please not play Pet down back just because he has pace. Keep him up front as a defensive forward.

We have something potentially special on our hands and I’d hate to see him develop into Pittard.

He seems to have a low centre of gravity and clean hands at pace;attributes you need when running back with a opposition forward pressuring you.Duggan,Cole and Shep are all quick but none are express pace.,With Ryan a lock for a forward position and Venables pushing for a mid/forward possie there is a fair bit of pace and congestion looking for a gig down forward.Looking at Petrol i think he is potentially in our best 22 and not neccessarily next year. Our success this year has been built to a large degree on playing youth. The moment we turn our back on that we could very easily revert to our stodgy old brand of footy.Winning 9 on the trot doesnt mean we are settled;it just means we have a bigger target on our back with a lot of time for teams to work us out.We need to keep evolving.I still think we have 5-6 positions in this team up for grabs.Keep doing what your doing Simmo, dont be afraid to keep changing things.

He's ok. I like him. He likes a good hawian pizza

Or Jayden Hunt. These blokes just grab it and run like headless chooks then forget they have to do something with it and turn it over

Saad marginally better

I dont know why people want to stuff around with our defence atm. Its rock solid.
Teams are always looking to break you down.If you are analysing your own team i think you need to look at potential weaknesses.I look at our defence and think ;weaknesses??- Barass with no right foot and non contact spoiling
-Getting scored against out the back by speedy little shits
-vulnerable to a big mobile power forward e.g. Franklin,Dixon etc.
If i was in opposition i would be looking to somehow exploit these little cracks.Doesnt mean they can but doesnt mean we cant look to keep improving.

Nobody is seriously suggesting that except nutcase. Just musing about his scope for development.

He is still extremely raw and I think his two AFL games, while exciting, showcased this.

Let him develop in the WAFL, and then select him when he is a bit bigger and better.
