I am very happy with how we played and how close we came.
But the fact is, they had 10 more scoring shots than us.

Just wondering what let us down as all i've heard is everyone was good (except slattery ;))?

Half forward was a worry - We didn't work the ball into the forward line like the Crows, normally we relied on a long kick from half-back / centre which was chopped off far too many times, because the Crows were dropping numbers back there.

Some of our skills, again got us into alot of trouble.

Lloyd and Lucas had average games but in-turn this is a positive because it wasn't them carrying us, but rather the young blokes.

Jetta, Lloyd, Welsh, McVeigh.

Could double up as a positive that our senior players were poor. Plenty of room for improvement:thumbsu:

coz we dont have anyone that can cover the x factor players like birdman and porplezia.... we would have copped an absoloute hiding if bb and porplezia kicked straight:mad:

Obviusly. But considering it was our pressure that forced Burton to take his marks further out than he would like, it was as much a credit to our defence on him as his poor kicking. He is a shaky shot at goal from more than 45 out, forcing him to kick from out there will always limit his output.

Too many players bombing it long instead of pin-pointing the pass.

Cant blame them actually, the forwards weren't prepared to run or was just heavily defended.

The amount of marks inside and around 50 that these guys dropped, but would have taken 3-5 years ago was staggering I thought.

If a couple of those had stuck it would have been a different ballgame.

I though our squad showed some fantastic signs.

You can't expect to win too many matches when you allow the oppositions best midfielders to get 33 (Thompson) & 27 (Goodwin) while your highest possesion winner is Lovett with 22. Yes our midfield was more competitive but we are losing & will continue to lose games in the area.

That's exactly what I thought! :thumbsu:

The majority of our young players did exceptionally well on the road and against a well coached, quality and experienced opposition. We're still missing an elite midfielder but apart from that our delivery into the forward line wasn't that bad, I've seen it a lot worse by our boys this year. Lloyd should've taken a couple of grabs that he would've a few years ago, one in the square when he was one-out and decided to go to ground, happens all too regularly.

Apart from that I don't have too many negatives, if we weren't 2 and 8 I probably would've put it down as a reasonable loss, but am disappointed because I was hoping that with our backs to the walls we would come out with a victory... we just don't have the cattle on the park for that.

Have to say though that we did a job job to force them to take their many (many) shots from either tight angles or from long distance.

Slattery and Welsh were absolutely useless. That was the major difference between the teams, they didn'y have anyone who played nearly as bad as these two.

Not too worried about the high numbers from Thompson and Goodwin as we were pretty even through the midfield in terms of output. We got enough of the ball from the stopages. We need better small defenders and we need Paddy Ryder to start playing like he did earlier this year.

Don't know whats wrong with Paddy. He did something along these lines last year. Had a great start but couldn't keep it going for the whole year.

Slattery was useless but we have no one to replace him. Who will play on Rioli this week if he doesn't play.

Mr Jetta of course.

ryder is playing a entirely different role to what he has played in the past. he is in the ruck. you cant expect a player in the start of his third year to play a completely different role and dominate immediately. he has been okay really for a new ruck, gotten over 10 hitouts each match and had around 10 possies each game from memory. thats alright by my standards. as soon as he is put back in defence for a whole game (hopefully this week) he will start to play really well again

as for slattery i thought he had a pretty good match against burton, burton was on fire and slattery was with him on the lead 9 times out of 10. he provided a contest, hasnt anyone noticed that whoever plays the small defender role is getting bagged each week? whoever has played down there has been in the worst on ground, slattery, welsh, winderlick etc. we dont have a small defender and slattery is probably the best we have.
