The next 5 games.

Would love to see these great hypotheticals, really would, but surely Jenkins going down leaves us with 3/5ths of stuff all scoring power. Yes Lynch will kick a couple, maybe Porps and some mids, but the lack of tall targets is making it pretty tough. Johnstone well overdue, and even if he does come in and kick a few, to do it regularly, as our main lead up target, is a big call for him.

I'd rather see;
5 weeks of Johnston - lets see once and for all what he can do
5 weeks of McKernan - yeh I know, but he just MIGHT do something that boosts his trade value
Hartigan another game or two
Kerridge in
Lyons to stay in
Thompson out - season 2014 preparation
Laird for a much deserved rising star nomination
Tambling to announce his retirement

Spot on, couldn't agree more.

I want to win this week just to ruin Port's finals run.

Doing the predictor, we are mathematically a chance to play finals. But I think everyone has been around long enough to know that when you start talking about mathematically being a chance, it is time to plan your September holiday.

West Coast have put the cue in the rack now, so our Round 23 game should be an easy win. Melbourne and Western Bulldogs should also be wins. North is a danger game and I think we go into the Port game underdogs.

FWIW, if we beat Port I have us finishing 8th and playing Sydney in week 1...

I think we need to take the attitude of wrecking a few other teams seasons, we need to start with port and hopefully get some winning momentum to take into the preseason

This is how it goes down...

We win all 5 games; finish 12-10.

Carlton lose to Frem, Rich, Ess; finish 11-11.

Port lose to Adel, Geel, Frem, Carl; finish 11-11.

North and WCE lose to us so winning all their other matches can't put them any higher than 11-11.

Essendon lose their points, we finish 7th, get knocked out by Collingwood first week.

it wouldn't really be in our interest to finish in the finals this year would it?

may as well finish as low as we can so we can get the best 3rd round pick we can get..

Depends

Do you want to give a finals game to the likes of Crouch, Lyons, Laird and co

Or get pick 60 instead of 65

Finishing below Port maybe more relevant in terms of PSD leverage to get someone like Gorringe back given we have little else to bargain with

A few weeks ago, I confidently predicted to an esteemed panel of experts (my drunk mates) that we'd finish 12-10... but in that scenario I stated we needed to pinch an upset win against either Collingwood, Geelong or Freo.

We can beat Port. Ignoring the fact Showdowns generally dont reflect form too much, I still think we have a huge advantage with it being our home game. It will be the first one in a while where we're underdogs. I think our form in general rates us atleast 50:50.

We can beat North here, especially if we've just beaten Port.

We can beat the Dogs and Melbourne.

We can beat a tanking West Coast especially if it means a finals berth.

We can do it, and I hope Sando is reinforcing that message. He has to be. We havent been that bad, apart from the horrendous kicking which was soul destroying on saturday. Who knows though, Lewy Johnston might be a solution to that? Amazing really that he hasnt been in the frame until now. Better late than never?

Incredible that what has seemed such a dogs breakfast of a season isnt over yet. Look, reality suggests that 1 more loss (quite possibly at the hands of the filth this week) draws the curtain on it. And that sits comfortably with me, because we cant win a flag this year.

But you cant deny our last month has atleast been encouraging. We've had every right to fall away by now, and sulk, and plan for next year, but we simply havent. Our players are showing some fight and its been great to watch. If they'd shown half of this earlier in the year we'd probably be in the 8.

For the first time all year, I've actually been happy with the way the side is playing. The effort is there, but we're being burned by the lack of polish (in particular in front of goal). But we're not gone. Its pretty funny if you think about it....

They only don't reflect form too much when we're favourites

If we go 4-1 I will be super happy. Destroying the filth and damaging finals hopes for Port would be nice but it really smells like a 50-50 games with the fat kid on Ports side of the see-saw. But just think, if our senior players had been in form and we hadn't had such critical injuries then we may have never discovered so many young, promising players which will be our future. Come 2015 when we should be aiming for top 4 these players will be coming upto pace with the pace of AFL and their cobwebs will be gone. If we had not of had our bad luck they may only be just starting out (if even still at the club). Like the crows of 2012 sometimes needed a loss to re-focus for next week, crows needed 2013 to re-focus and reload for final berths for many years to come.

Our senior players are now becoming out depth players and our next decade now lies in Crouch, Lyons, Kerridge, Laird, Brown, Jenkins, Grigg, Sloane, Danger, Walker, Hartigan, Hendo's hands to name a few. So many young players, so much promise and a lot of improvement to come. It's exciting to think about!

One week at a time. Have gone off these sort of threads after being burnt in 2011. Kick straight, beat the PAP's then worry about Norf. Build some momentum and belief.

Nearly everything in this post is wrong.

Nearly everything in this post is wrong.

You saying its not a 50-50 game with probably a slight bias towards Port winning?
You saying that we would have discovered as many good young players if our players of last year were not injured/out of form?
You saying we shouldn't be aiming for top 4 in 2015 and top 8 in 2014?
You saying that new players would have got as many (if any) games if things hadn't gone the way they have?
You saying that the new players will not be more confident starting probably a year earlier than they otherwise would have?
You saying a loss in 2012 wasn't always a good wakeup call?
You saying that teams never need a bad year to get up the next year?
You saying that we will not be playing finals a lot in the upcoming years?

Ok then.
