I think everyone got carried away a couple of years ago with the mare, but I wouldnt blame anyone for thinking this bloke was the best in the world cause I agree. Northerly is an out and out gun.

Big statement, but I believe Northerly is at least the equal to the best horse I've seen race in my lifetime. I cant think of a horse thats better.

Sunline runs along and most horses settle back and wait for her to stop, but not this bloke. He sits right on her ass and takes the field up to her, runs past, breaks her in half, see ya later thanks for coming everyone. What a great horse.

Freddie should take him to the Japan Cup, I think he'd be a bird.

I will join up I thought he was a Special in the Cox Plate so I took him as a Banker in my quaddie and you bewdy $322.50 jumped in for my $126.00 outlay.

Northerly

No more needs to be said in my view!!!!!

I'm not the biggest punter or horseman getting round but i would have to say I choked back the tears on Saturday watching the magnificent Northerly... what a champion!

Northerly - The Greatest

This horse is the only one that just sends shivers down your spine and makes you shake like a leaf!!

Im unsure if its because he is that good or if its the fact that he always looks like hes under pressure during a race......

It doesnt stop him though!!!

I think I am going to go out and buy a massive portrait of him if I can!

It will be taking pride of place!!!!

He's an absolute champ.

Pity he was gelded - I wouldnt have minded seeing a few of his progeny floating around the place. Sunline x Northerly - hot damn. Now there would be a foal who'd hit the head lines as soon as it was concieved.

But no, sadly he's lost his ability to be able to make that happen. *Sob* Oh well, there's always that Fields Of Omagh character. But he's temperamental and IMO, any stallion they have to use the stallion chain on at the barriers always turns me right off.

Don Eduardo, Lonhro, blah blah blah...geez, I really wish Northerly hadnt been gelded.

I think you mean Bel Esprit. He needed the stallion chain.

As for Fields Of Omagh, he's a gelding too.

the best ive seen & absolutely enjoyed, both as a race watcher & punter, since rubiton. the main difference between the two being that northerly is getting to fulfill his connections dreams, where as rubiton was cut down in his prime.

now that would be a match race worth watching.....:)

pardon my ignorance but what is a stallion chain?

It's a special type of lead they use at the barriers to coax fiery horses into the stalls. It fits over their noses and calms them down so they walk in easily. That's the basics of it to the best of my knowledge, there could be something else to it.
