Actually doing a re-watch of this at the moment. Nostalgia hits are strong.

Best characters are:

Sandy Cohen
Anna
Summer
Luke (after the episode with his gay Dad)
Seth? He was an amazing character. His comedic relief was what made it all work. It would have been a lot shit if it was just storylines between Ryan and Marissa. They weren't exactly top level actors. I felt Sandy, Seth and Julie were the glue that held it all together. Julie is mad underrated. Played that bitchy rich housewife role to perfection.

when mrs norf and i visited cali we insisted my cousin take us to chino. we went there.

really the O.C a great show? jeepers, standards have dropped. next you will stating Melrose Place as a classic

He was talking about season 1 as a whole. Every episode in season 1 was a 5/5. It was consistent all great episodes which I agree.

For me The Wire is the greatest show ever but you wouldn't say that every episode in season 1 of The Wire was a 5/5.

Its very rare to have a show that every episode is great, The O.C did it in season 1.

How frustrating to watch was the Oliver arc? My heart cried for Ryan so hard. The start of my hate for Marissa....

Idiots burned through all the good storylines in one year, they condensed about four seasons worth of story into that first year and sent all the good characters away by the start of the second year. Could've been so much better, One Tree Hill didn't make those mistakes which resulted in it having that great longevity.

Shows like One Tree Hill lasted 9 seasons because it was cheap to make and produce so the ratings didn't have to be so high.

The O.C was bloody expensive to make because it was shot on location and a quarter of the show's budget was on the music (worth every cent). The ratings wasn't that bad, had the show came out today with the same ratings it had when it was cancelled it would've continued with either Cable TV or Online Streaming because it had a fan base that would've watched the show on multiple devices. Network TV's are bloody greedy.

Off topic the show had some unknown stars who later became huge in supporting roles. Chris Pratt, Olivia Wilde, Chris Brown, Shailene Woodley.

wow looking at that list I had forgotten how many songs off my ipod came from the OC

Spot on agree 100%, The first season had 27 episodes.

Nope, One Tree Hill only lasted longer because it was cheaper to produce and the ratings didn't matter because the network wasn't making a loss. Had nothing to do with quality. Like I said earlier The O.C was bloody expensive to make because it was shot on location and a quarter of the show's budget was on the music.

The O.C Ratings
Season 1 - 9.7 million
Season 2 - 7.0 million
Season 3 - 5.6 million
Season 4 - 4.3 million (Cancelled)

One Tree Hill Ratings.
Season 1 - 3.5 million
Season 2 - 4.3 million
Season 3 - 2.8 million
Season 4 - 2.9 million
Season 5 - 3.3 million
Season 6 - 2.8 million
Season 7 - 2.3 million
Season 8 - 1.8 million
Season 9 - 1.8 million (Finally Cancelled)

They never should've killed off Caleb Nichol either. The characters were leaving far too quickly and by the end of it there was hardly anyone left and we had to deal with shit characters like Johnny and all the side characters in season four.

Only watched the first season and then accidentally got hooked on GoT. Might have to start this again soon.

I don't mind these kind of shows. I enjoyed the first season of Gossip Girl (although I heard that went downhill pretty quickly as well).

I believe the end game was to ship off all of the original 4 and season 5 focus on Caitlin Cooper and friends

OC was clearly just on another level to other teen dramas

It was the most frustrating part - so many times, all it needed was one of Ryan or Marissa to just say the right thing, but they never quite got there...

Frustrating as hell - but realistic.

Oliver was such a campaigner.

Strong call ; S1 was epic, totally unmissable.

I actually bailed after S2; might have to rewatch and complete soon.

Point taken, however OTH actually had a slower gradual build to their storylines. O.C did the Seth/Summer/Anna love triangle in like seven episodes, OTH spent about three seasons on their equivalent love triangle storyline (Lucas/Peyton/Brooke). Ryan and Luke buddied up half way through the first year of The O.C. when they started off as arch enemies burning down houses together lol. They rushed things big time on The O.C.
