You should probably read more reports.

About 35 companies and academic institutions are racing to create such a vaccine, at least four of which already have candidates they have been testing in animals. The first of these – produced by Boston-based biotech firm Moderna – will enter human trials imminently.

This unprecedented speed is thanks in large part to early Chinese efforts to sequence the genetic material of Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. China shared that sequence in early January, allowing research groups around the world to grow the live virus and study how it invades human cells and makes people sick.

There are more than 20 vaccines in development. One has begun human trials after unusually skipping any animal research to test either the safety or the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Other scientists are at the animal research stage and hope to get the results of human trials later in the year.

Pennsylvania-based INOVIO announced the receipt of a new $5 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on March 12 to accelerate the testing of its novel DNA vaccine for COVID-19, known as INO-4800.

Currently in preclinical studies, INOVIO plans to advance into US Phase 1 clinical trials next month, backed by up to $9m. in funding from the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. The company says it aims to deliver one million doses of INO-4900 and handheld intradermal delivery devices to administer them by the end of 2020.

Lol literally the first article you posted conflicts your twelve month claim:

“Like most vaccinologists, I don’t think this vaccine will be ready before 18 months”

I won’t bother reading the others, as you clearly haven’t.

I said 16 months, I was giving an estimate. A lot of places are saying vaccine within a year, depending on who you listen to that doesn't mean widely available.

You go with your two years if you want.

You said 16 months, then said reports are suggesting 12 months, then posted a link to an article saying most vaccinologists don’t think it will be ready within 18 months.

Let’s just agree you have no idea and move on.

I said 16 months and that some reports were saying a vaccine would be around in 12 months.

Care to point to the 24 month estimate in any report?

As this is an emergency like no other we’ve witnessed the hope has got to be a vaccine is found sooner than perhaps it normally would. I’ve heard 18 months but also it could be 12 months. Probably a year from now is the best we can hope for

“At least 24 months” was referring to normality being restored back into our lives. Then you started harping on about vaccines lol.

Haven't missed you Gosha.

As WR said, plenty are saying 12-18 months for a vaccine. I split the middle. In terms of the economy who knows, going to be a lot longer than 24 months I would think.

Plenty do say that, but you posted an article saying most vaccinologists don’t think it will be ready before 18 months, which you pretended to have read. I’m sorry, but you can’t retain an ounce of credibility after that blunder.

You tried to use Google to pretend like you knew what you were talking about and you couldn’t even do that right.

This is a bad one, SM.

What are people's thoughts on investing? Might be a good time in the next week or two to jump on.
If you’ve got the cash yeah definitely. Make sure you get a fund manager though. My shares haven’t taken as big a hit because of that

Don't trust them. Snake oil salesmen the lot of them.

Figure looking for some long term investments in stable stocks might be worth looking at soon. Our banks will pull through this pretty well and have stable balance sheets, so if much more drops out of the market it might be worth getting in.

Let's talk about something else.

Anyone got any funny school stories?
I don't.
Loads.

Well if you think you’re an expert with the market then go for it, but you’re playing with fire at a time like this

Harvey Norman shares. Gerry was spruiking how solid business has been just today.
Yep billionaire gleefully enjoying profiting off the panic of the populous while millions around the country have to work from home, be stood down or sacked.

I'm not saying I wouldn't invest in a fund, just not that I'd hand my money over to an advisor or fund manager.

A few days ago could've brought shorting opportunity against the AUD, with the RBA's decision to commence quantitative easing.

I'm personally not going to touch the markets for quite a while. So much darn volatility and I've not the time/knowledge to bother.

So last night Melbourne was in lockdown from Tuesday

Now it's pretty much business as usual with all offices and construction sites open like normal Wednesday

Harvey Norman has been a shitshow for years. Increased earnings will be factored in and when they cant match them in the following reporting season they will tank.
