Monday morning our time. This year it's in NY/NJ.

Basically the entire weekend becomes a wrestling festival in the host city - other promotions host shows during the week in the city so there's almost always high quality wrestling events happening.

This year's Rumble was eh. Not many surprise entrants which are what makes the Rumble special IMO.

Keen for Mania though, like you said it's a good thing for those who are more casual watchers. Getting three friends over to watch who either used to be fans or have never watched, as well as the usual crew. Should be good fun.

Mania headlined Rousey this year I hear?

Not for me, but good for you. If it's on your bucket list, definitely do what you can to make it happen. Nothing more satisfying than fulfilling something you've always wanted to do.

And on a different note, get to NYC. Greatest place in the world.

I did Amtrak from Boston to Penn Station, through Connecticut a few years back... Nice scenic ride...lots of green.
Yep we are doing the same thing I think.

Indeed, it should be a great match. Rousey stunned me last year with how good she was right out of the gate. Along with Becky (the crowd favourite, she gets bigger reactions than most of the men) and Charlotte, two of the best women in the company, it has a great chance of being match of the night and deservedly the main event.

That along with Daniel Bryan vs Kofi Kingston are my most anticipated matches.

I was a little critical at her transitions looking sloppy to start, and a few “shots” were laughably off, so it will be interesting to see how she goes. Charlotte is the daughter of the great one, so it seems natural she has the talent. Whooo!

When is that Loons and where?

Big weekend for me.

Wedding is Saturday and we fly out on our honeymoon Sunday. New chapter in life, not much will essentially change, but can't wait.

Land in San Fran, then Vegas, Chicago, Niagara, Boston, NYC for 3.5 weeks

Going to be amazing.

Early congratulations buddy, sounds like an epic trip planned. Best of luck.

That Joker movie looks pretty good but the whole comic book craze is way past overkill. Just an easy way for Hollywood to make a killing without putting any thought or substance into their output.

Controversial opinion. Heath Ledger’s joker sucked.

Have you seen movies like Logan, Infinity War or The Dark Knight? Multiple examples other than those as well of movies that go deep and beyond a shallow 'comic book story'.

At the end of the day, it's just a different medium that has been adapted that people respond to.

In what way are those films deep? They are just a bit of escapism for the mindless masses imo. It’s fine if Hollywood was creating decent content alongside them, but they’re not.

Which is another reason Joker should appeal more to wider audiences who feel there’s superhero fatigue. It has a tiny budget relative to its peers ($55m compared to say ~$400m of Avengers Endgame).

Has much more an independent movie feel about it, a grounded character driven story will minimal need for CGI effects etc that come with the larger blockbusters.

Hollywood keep making a killing as you say because there’s a large market for these movies. At the same time though, no one is compelled or obligated to pay their money and see it if it doesn’t interest them.

No one is obliged to pay, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a right to complain as you seem to imply. It saddens me how far popular culture has fallen, that’s why I’m chipping in. I don’t see any merit whatsoever in flooding the market with this super-hero nonsense. How many major films a year do they release? Must be at least three. I guess we’ve reached the point when originality can no longer be found. That’s actually not a dig, it probably is the case

Am sorry to tell you, the figure is a lot more than 3. It’s probably closer to 7-8 when factoring in all of the studious various films.

Not saying you don’t have a right to complain. But if you think they’re just making too many of them to try and milk more money, then not giving them your money is a good way to counter that.

I don’t give my money, I’ve onky ever seen a few of them in the tele. It baffles me it really does how they’ve caught on as they have.

PJW nails the whole popular culture thing for me in a big way. He couldn’t be more right about music and film if he tried. Have a watch

There's plenty of original movies, how many do you get out to see? If the answer is not many then you have your answer for why they get made for mass audiences less. They still exist though.

Can't watch that at the moment, but is that similar to my post in here a while back?

Unfortunately, not many people go and see independent cinema and tend to only go to the blockbuster films hence those getting bigger budgets and better marketing.

Super hero movies are great especially once they get beyond the origin side of things.

What post was that?

It’s just a video from some YouTuber who I stumbled on a while ago. I tend to agree with much of what he says, especially on the stuff he talks about here. His shit about holograms at the beginning isn’t really on point for me though - rest of it is

This is the same argument people come up with as to why music is so shit now - “oh it’s just the mainstream you have to look for the good shit yourself” etc etc. I don’t really buy it. Even if we take that argument as gospel, when did the mainstream in music and movies become so shit? It never used to be that way...

That culturally the world is at an impasse because of the volume of culture being produced in a variety of genres. Meaning we're at a dead end in terms of what can be creatively produced. It's why there are so many remakes/reboots these days.
