Re: 2012 Trade Targets

Theres only 2 picks in it at the end of this year, and the end of next season.

There will be some serious offers thrown at GWS for that first pick.

Yeah but why should we overlook it? Why can't the NMFC be bold. Carlton grabbed Judd, Collingwood go hard when they want something. Essendon would stop at nothing to get what they want. This an opportunity that doesn't involve us spending millions we don't have. We all know Free Agency is coming and the so called 'guns' of the competion may steer clear of us.

So why can't we take advantage of a very rare chance to grab a young kid that by all reports is 'better than Judd, Ablett' etc. We need a marquee player, I'd go very hard to get it, very hard.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

lol Hamish goes down and everyone wants to trade him. I don't know how scary a HMac/Goldy combo could be for opposition sides. Goldy rests on the pine and Macca goes up against the oppositions resting ruck? We will win the ball in the middle 80% of the time with Spits, Zie & Cunners. Hard running goal kicking ruck man are hard as %$@* to find - and we'be got two of them - let's use them hey?

There was nothing better than seeing him clunk marks in the goal square when resting forward.

With him and Petrie in the forward 50 no one team could stop the both of them. Throw in an in form Edwards leading up and a Matty Campbell/ Thomas at their feet with Boomer playing on the HFF also. I'm liking the look of that forward line.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

Blease was drafted in 2008 and then got a 2 year extension, therefore he is not out of contract until the end of 2012.

Why would he want to move clubs? Yes I know we all hate MFC, but they are on the rise just like us. Was he a NM fan before being drafted? Am I missing something?

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

I don't rate him at all but apparently we were after Cale Morton last year. There's been a lot of talk recently that he'll change clubs next season and I think we would be interested.
Yes this is the sort of player we need

He was horrible yesterday, has been all year. We should not be going anywhere near him. In fact, all the Morton's have fallen out of favour.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

No no no.

You don't trade unless it's to cover a glaring deficiency in your side and you can get a real difference maker (ala Jolly). Pearce and probably all these guys won't make a difference and I can say we don't have any huge deficiences in any area. We've got to follow the Geelong model and build depth of talent through the draft.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

+1 for [strike]Hamish Hartlett[/strike]. EDIT: Callum Bartlett, as per the OP

With the depth we are moving with, he's the kind of high risk high payoff that could be just the ticket. I guess it just depends what kind of long term issues there are with his knees. But if he wants to come home, he could be available cheap. Good risk.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

Why would you want to trade for players when our recruiting has been so good in the last 3 or 4 years?

Lets just draft the kids, it seems to be working.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

Kidding urself if u think hartlett going to be cheap. At least first round pick, would be happy to chase another mid, then basi to hbf. Really we are only going to be able to win a flag with our mid, it the trend. The more the better. I have no problem with the club trading hamish aslong as it for another player, don't think we need more picks. Got shot down with cooney, but add him to our midfield fit and it top 3 in to years. He is 25 yrs old, outside mid that can kick goals.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

WTF?

I'm getting tired of this trade Hamish bullshit.
I'm getting even more tired of hearing about Shaun McKernan. We have the talls sorted out.

FWIW I was dead against going after a guy like Pearce but I'm not so much against it anymore. Played in an attacking position with no other responsibility other than to play outside forward of centre and either deliver the ball or go himself, he could be alright. We have the hard nuts covered and we're starting to develop the other side with Wells, Bastinac, Speight, Adams, Atley, Anthony, Harper etc. From memory I wasn't too enthusiastic about getting Abraham for the same reasons I was against Pearce but he ended up complimenting our hard nosed midfielders and was a bonus on the forward line. Now we have the midfield developing it mightn't be such a bad move.

Gray would cost too much, is contracted and as mentioned has stagnated. And injury prone.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

While I'm happy drafting younger players i would be looking to add a polished, skillfull, quick midfielder. I'm not sure about Pearce it's a gamble but he's a good player when "he's on". I personally would like to seen left footed quick and skillful mid recruited whether that be draft or by trading we don't have to many lefties I would love to see one or two added.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

A trade for Pearce would mean getting 22 games at the expense of Atley, Wright, Harper, MacMillan, Campbell.

McKernan would not get games over McIntosh, Goldstein, Hansen. Heck Daw isn't likely to get a game.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

Trade the guys that arent in our future.

Like Lower,ross,warren and Mckinley.

GWS might be after some hard bodies to help out the kids.

Smack wont be going anywhere especially if they lose the KPP that is going to GWS

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

Personally not a fan of the Pearce idea. Allowing even one player to play a soft, unaccountable, outside role is sending a message to the team that it's okay to skirt the packs and play unaccountable football.

Wells is a silky smooth playmaker, yet is second for us in contested possessions. You can be a deliverer and line breaker whilst also hard at it - these are the types we need; we can't allow 'soft' players in the side.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

Dion Prestia (vic boy who was spewing to go to GC, must look at)

Bernie Vince (had issues at the crows, but is a very good player)

Brent Stanton (would suit us perfect with Swallow, Wells, Greenwood, Bastinac, Ziebell etc)

Brent Prismall (Can't get into bombers line up, but gets a lot of the ball)

(spewing we didn't get Simon Buckley-looks quick and breaks the lines)

Aaron Davey (flashy player who can break the lines, also cousin of Wellsy? )

Daniel Connors (great left foot, just what we need in defence)

Take your pick.

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

IMO, Vince is the one we should go after. Hard runner, good skills, hard at it. The player we need. I'd be more than happy to just keep drafting though.

daniel connors is a good option, hasn't played much footy this year so we could get him cheap. would fit nicely on the hbf

Oh, that's embarrassing. I have NEVER seen that on a footy field before!

Hmmm yer im all of their cousins and there not been playing well in saying that, Jarryd Has been Injured and Mitch has been forced to find himself in life and Cale wasnt to bad on Monday thought he was one of the better players he will take time though

Re: 2012 Trade Targets

I haven't given this a heap of thought, but who was the last Premiership side to not trade for a few senior players?

Collingwood went after Jolly, Ball and Brown.
Cats got Ottens.
Hawks Dew, Guerra, Gilham.
WCE Stenglein, Chick
Sydney Hall, Bolton, Jolly, Davis

I agree that developing kids to form a nucleus is absolutely vital, but recruiting players to compliment the side and build depth can result in Premierships if surrounded by the right players. I guess the question is whether the timing is right?
