happiest thread I've ever had to make. I said we were done after just scraping home against the hawks, and we looked really wobbly at points even in the grand final, but we've managed to squeeze one more flag out. Anyone else who wrote us off feel free to post here!!!

Even after last week I had my reservations, ecstatic to be proven wrong!! :D:D

To be fair though, it was really the Saint's game to lose. We got really lucky today, weren't playing anywhere near our best.

Re: The Maligned

Kudos to Hawkins, Byrnes and Blake. Stood up when counted

I take back everything i ever said and applaud you.

Ya, guilty here too. Was badmouthing Varcoe's game then he dished off two handballs to Chappy for goals.

Finally got back from the G - WHAT A WIN KIDS!!! Just want to say that VEEDUBS, renegay and a few others should be taking stock right now. We told you. We knew hawk was a gun. We knew Varcs, Byrnesy, etc were up to it. We knew Bomber was pacing the cavalry a'la BJ Cummings for a September attack.

You called it stupid optimism, we just knew.

You have every right to enjoy it.

But we've been enjoying it all season

After we lost to Carlton I was sure the team had jumped the shark.

But then I saw us play Freo in Round 22. Make no mistake, Freo were quite decent opposition that day and had pace to burn. Once I saw the cats dispose of them, my fears of the cats being able to play teams like the Bulldogs and Collingwood went away. And I knew that we could match the Saints.

I knew the team had it in them, but I was worried that they'd lost "it". Even Scarlo said as match in the saturday Hun. But they got it back as soon as Kelly and Otto came back in and never looked back

Go Cats!

Haha yeah the Freo gave me a lot of confidence that we could win it as well

I didn't rate the dogs one bit so I was glad they and the pies had all the hype going into the finals.

I thought we were going to get done for a long stretch in the granny, only when Max kicked that point to make it 7 margin with a few minutes left was I ever confident.

All year i had no doubt of us winning it except i got a bit worried once or twice yesterday during the game.

Wondering where all those people who have been sinking the boots into Bomber's coaching for the last 12 months are.

He's a great coach now. He was always able to build a team and a successful game style but sometimes struggled with game day tactics

He pulled all the right reins yesterday. Great coaching. Selected the right team. The Bartel move to Hayes. Rooke onto Fisher pretty much decided the whole match

Stuck to his guns with keeping SJ and Varcoe on the ground which turned the match in the 4th quarter. And happy to keep his favourite player out of the team (Stokes) and keep the captain on the bench for extended periods. Made some tough calls, but the right ones

I don't know if there's anything more he could have done right??

I thought we were too Riewoldt conscious early. We had two or three behind the ball so when we got it we couldn't get it out of our d50. Saints pressure was good so we couldn't run it out which meant bombing it to the corresponding loose saints players on the wing ready to reload, hence the massive differential in inside 50s. If saints players had taken their chances in the 1st half it might be a very different appraisal of the coaching performance.

However Bartel to Hayes was a massive move. I thought the coaching was more telling against the pies though to be honest. Malthouse has owned him a few times but everything he did in that game came off.

That's exactly how I felt, and earlier I was shitting myself when everyone around me was saying how Chappy had gone off with a hammy.

The wet weather played into the Saints hands, it suited their zone and didn't allow us to move the ball well at all. The boys simply had to grind out the win, and with a bit of luck no doubt, they did.

When we went 7 points up I almost started crying, cos yeah that's when it sunk in to me that we might actually win.

Thanks boys.:thumbsu::D

I admit I was wrong in picking Bartel for Norm Smith
