Hamish Hartlett - Midfielder - 182cm 74kg
Tyrone Vickery - Ruck/Forward - 200cm 86kg
Jack Ziebell - Midfielder - 188cm 84kg
Lewis Johnston - KP Forward - 192cm 87kg
Steele Sidebottom - Midfielder - 182cm 79kg
Jackson Trengove - KP Back - 196cm 77kg
Shaun McKernan - KP Forward/Ruck - 196cm 95kg
Micheal Hurley - KP Back - 192cm 92kg

Using the mock drafts from the Drafts and Trading board, I have come up with the 8 players above as the ones who will most likely be available when pick 8 rolls around in the draft. From this list who would you prefer we picked up and why.

Very very tough, but I'd have to go Shaun McKernan.

As awesome as another A grade midfielder might sound, for the better of the RFC, McKernan fits the bill.

We got Thomson over, and I just think the logics of Cameron would be to go tall with first two picks.

McKernan is a very good young footballer in his own right, and who knows, he might be the pick of the bunch in a few years time.

Also his draft camp was very good.

Sub 3 seconds in 20m sprints is fast for a midfielder.
Massive vertical leap.

And to think he is 196cm and 95kgs!

The kids a monster, athletic, uses his body, crashes the packs and is a good kick. I was sceptic but hes won me over. I wont be disappointed if he is picked, and I wont be disappointed if we get a mid.

I went Vickery, but I can't see him not being taken by Port. Realistically Hamish Hartlett would be my best bet, like him alot. Trengove and Ziebell beyond that.

Ziebell, cos IMO he'll be the best player from the draft and, along with some others, is a player type we need...not positional, but one with balls who doesn't mind standing up for his mates or dishing out some. He's a "hard" player, and we sadly lack that.

By the way, who did you vote RT?

I remember you mentioning McKernan a few times.

I've voted for McKernan. The reason being we desperately need to find a KP forward who can take over from Richo in a couple of years time. None of the ones we have currently really stand out as the one who will do just that.
Schulz was tried but seems to be looked upon now more as a KP back first and a forward is we're in trouble second. With the progress he made down back this year I would be inclined to leave him there, especially after what I read about Polak yesterday on another site.

Hughes has been in and out of the side and although he bagged 6 goals against Port he hasn't come close to repeating that effort before or since. Until he does I'm not sure he is the answer.

Gourdis is a second year kid who spent most of the season playing backline for Coburg seconds but was drafted as a forward, so who knows where the club will play in the future.

Riewoldt is someone I see more as our Ryan O'Keefe 3rd tall. Will cover ground, will use his footy smarts to get into dangerous positions but will struggle if he has to play KP.

Putt, by all reports, is being groomed as a future FF. McKernan on the other hand could play CHF quite easily especially with his speed, agility and vertical leap.

With quality talls harder to come by than quality midfielders I believe we should take the quality KP forward with this years first pick and look for more midfield depth next year. With Thomson and Coughlan(hopefully) coming into the side this year I think we're pretty set in terms of midfielders for now.

Also with GC & WS coming into with a heap of concessions in the next few years our first pick in years to come could be somewhere near 20 and if we're picking that low in the draft I think it would be much easier to find a decent midfielder than it would be to find a quality tall.

Agree with all that RT. Those exact reasons have swayed my opinion.

And also, since when have we drafted a 196cm 95kg player!?

I mean, this kids a monster and could be our answer.

I'd just love to know whats going on in Camerons head right now.

I picked Trengove because I don't believe Vickery will be around.

If he is given the all clear by the medical staff I think we should grab him.

He was said to be a top 5 pick before injury and beat the likes of Kreuzer, NicNat, Vickery, McEvoy, Cordy and Mckernan when he was underaged last year.

Can play KP anywhere on the ground and is highly competitive and skilled. Puts his head over the ball, crashes packs and has a mighty leap.

Is a great tackler and good below his knees as well. At 196 cm "Simmos height" there no reason he couldn't be a good ruck prospect also.

Cons:

-Everything good he did was done last year.

-Is light for his height at 77kgs and will need to stack it on.

-project player

Keep in mind I can only comment on what highlights I've seen what I've heard and read.

Edit- basically waht I'm saying is my opinion is worth shit ;)

I do like Mckernan but he just seems a little off to me, I dunno but you guys seems to make great points on him and I won't be disappointed if we grab him either.

I would love a ready made player like Ziebell or Hartlett but our list needs are a little dire.

If he's available I'd have to take Hurley, will step right into seniors and make our defense nigh impenetrable in the near future with the quality of blokes around him down back. Can pinch hit up forward as well. While we could definately sure up our ruck and forward divisions I just like the idea of having an awesome backline.

Steele Sidebottom for sure, will be the best player of this draft in 5 years time.
Has a greeat Football brain which is rare.

I agree, Steele Sidebottom is an amazing talent.

Reminds me of a mix between Cotchin, Palmer and N.G.Brown but tough like Cogs. He has a genuine influence on matches and I'd be very happy for him to slip to pick 8.

Hard to judge from video clips, but his footy brain is a class above.

I went Mckernan because Vickary wont be there and we need a tall so it was between Mckernan and Trengove. Either way I would be pleased.

Pretty sure Trengove weighed in at draft camp at least 85kg. I vote Jack Watts.
He probably did, the figures are from the Phantom draft on the D&T board and I used them just to give people a guide.

While Watts would be a great get, I'd be worried if he fell to pick 8 after being talked up as a certain number 1 all year. :)

McKernan for me need a another tall forward that can crash packs like richo none of our currant forwards are built strong enough to do so

Trengove for mine as he will provide a presence wherever he plays. He will be able to go forward or back and pinch-hit in the Ruck. McKernan is a forward/pinch-hit Ruck and Johnston is a lead-up forward like Jack. Trengove gives us more options. As for the mid-fielders I'd love to have a Zeibell, Blease or Sidebottom but they just don't fill our most pressing need ATM which I feel is to have an imposing 'swing' KPP.

I reckon we should seriously look at sidebottom or another quality in and under mid. We would have the most seriously talented midfield in the competition in a couple of years time.

Sure we lack a quality key forward but look at the eagles who won the flag with lynch in the goal square. I'd hardly call him a quality forward but with the amount of supply he had due to a class midfield he was bound to kick a few that year. I reckon we could make do with the forwards we have. Is there anyone in the draft who could replace richo? I seriously doubt it.
