Two Brownlow medalists, two ball magnets but two very slow players. The wrong side of 30 and have no defensive running abilities . It's clear that teams can cut as apart with a fast running midfield.

Can two champions of our game be a detriment to our success?

Priddis should retire now. It's been evident since his first JLT that he's gone on a year too long.

It would work if we had quick players around them, the problem is apart from Shuey, we don't, and he isn't ultra these days anyway. Not to mention slow types like Redden, Hutch, Sheed to an extent.

We can live with Mitchell in our midfield, but there is no free ride for Priddis anymore. Priddis has to go.

The two Brownlow medalist are not the major concern.

As Water Bottle rightly points out in the above post we need quicker players around them both and secondly we cant afford to run with Redden AND Hutch in the same team.

Its a shame a also questionable coaching that we are not able to game manage so that the likes of Jetta and Wellers are more frequently on the receiving end of work of Mitchell and Priddis.

Shuey could undoubtable use a hand sharing the pacy midfielder option with another inside / outside flyer.

the game moved on from "inside only" and/or one dimensional MVP midfielders players 5 years ago. We got cut to pieces through Priddis yet again. At least mitchell has excellent kicking, vision and evasion.

Yes the game has moved on thats why I said an Inside / Outside flyer.......they need to be able to do both.

If we had quicker mids we would still have Pritchell jogging around as the oppisition link up thru the corridor.

that also includes the blokes who play 90% of the time playing at the ruckman's feet. It is pointless 'building' fast inside/outside mids around a player who is so slow and useless. It is ever more so important that said 'centre' mid/s are the most dynamic mid types we can put out there. eg. Wellingham Yeo.
Priddis and to a lesser extent Gaff and Hutch are killing us..

I think Priddis and Mitchell are fine. It is players like Redden, Sheed, Jetta, Masten and Hutchings that offer little offensively and defensively.

Mitchell and Priddis by their very nature are defensive liabilities when the opposition get clear hands.

How more chances are people willing to give Jetta? I think hes taking the piss atm.

I don't think he is, he is playing exactly like he has for his whole career. He has got a hell of a lot of mileage from one run down the wing at the MCG.

As we don't play the corridor this will stand out more and more, we must play the corridor with Mitchell, he is the link. Playing the boundaries we will get seriously exposed by teams rebounding back through the corridor.
I have no idea why we have started playing the boundaries.

I suspect teams are forcing us wide because we are not moving it quickly off half back. Either not confident with that link up kick, too slow or just the wrong mix of players expected to do the rebounding.

But that isn't the core problem, both play their roles well. Not every player is an offensive/defensive beast. It is the job of some of the others to apply pressure and move more quickly in transition.

And the coaches bare some blame. We have guys like Hutchings who could run with Martin, who was left free because Simpson like more available numbers to run ahead of the ball. Yet Redden and Hutchings had no other impact.

Priddis is the worst of the lot of those by that same measure. I do agree Masto (he was good last week) Hutch + Jetta are letting us down though.

Just here for the money before retiring ,hes hearts not in it anymore ...

I just did not understand the Jetta over Sheed selection this game. They knew it was going to be wet, they knew Richmond were going to bring immense midfield pressure, so why play a soft outside skier as apposed to hard nut who can win his won ball? Just dumb stupid selection.

they were worried about the pace that Richmond have unearthed now that a few players have stepped up ..

Di you think we take to long to bring the ball back into play after a behind? Hurn should be playing attacking side of half back.

If we have the ball, then they are unable exploit it. Jetta also isn't known for his defensive or tackling efforts, Sheed on the other hand can hold his own offensively and defensively.

Yep. I think thats a symptom of players not making space for each other up field. Its also execution and foot skills which has been shit lately.
