Toast The return of two maligned blokes.

Okay, I haven't consumed any cool aid and aren't making any decisions on how we are really going until after round 8, however, i will happily eat some humble pie on two blokes who i have bagged pretty frequently in recent times.
It is really pleasing to see Ellis return to his pre 2014 form. Been a different player to watch this season, and
Reece Conca, could we finally see this bloke have a break out year? Whoever thought to move him into defence, it seems an inspired decision.
Anyway, i am keen to see if others are seeing what i am seeing?
Discuss.

Brandon Ellis has been great. Getting half as many touches but is a different player. Move it quick and direct. Plus you would back him in more often than not at winning a 1-1 contest based on his form this year.

Conca's kicking has also been a real
Highlight.

Loving both their work

Reece was moved down back in the preseason last year and was looking great until the hammy went so I'm glad the move has been revisited this year. Like B.Ellis he knows how to get to the right spots to win possession. The difference between them though is that in traffic Conca is better equipped to deal with the pressure that gets applied and can work his way through without much panicking. Last year when he went down Ellis was called upon to play that role and simply isn't as capable as Conca when under that sort of pressure, hence the tendency to throw the ball on his boot at the slightest hint of pressure. With Conca back in it frees Ellis up to be the gut runner who gets out in space where he has the time to assess his options and usually make the right choice.

Alongside Houli & Short we now have a range of options to turn to when bringing the ball out of the back half which makes it much harder to shut down our counter attack.

Dont want to jinx him but Conca plays like a defender until he gets the ball then he is a running outside mid. Confidence to dart back and forth and run out of trouble. Is a big asset if he keeps that form up

Credit where it is due
Conca has been good this year
B Ellis has improved out of sight ...much better suited to our new game style ...i was very critical of Ellis last year ..but i'm liking what i'm seeing ..
Dave Astbury has been immense
Just hope Conca and Astbury are over there injury problems
And i don't give a shit what anyone says about Grigg ...he can play ...helicopter kicks not withstanding

BEllis has been massively helped by the change in game style...suits him so much more.

Conca is looking great down back [emoji106]...but still wonder how well his body will hold up and whether he's susceptible to being exposed by a fast paced forward line.

Ellis has improved , but still goes to ground too easily with the hint of any physical contact.
Conca has finally got his body right and has contributed well.
His disposal still needs a lot of work as its iffy, but credit to him his last two weeks have been excellent .
I'm not sure they're as great as people are making them out to be as they were first round picks. They're high C graders with Conca pushing B and for first round picks playing in positions completely different to what I thought we drafted them for. Ellis on a wing is acceptable if he didn't fall over so much. This never gets mentioned on the stat sheet and should bc it would show up a lot of players.
I'm not sold on Ellis yet , but like Houli his game has improved with the new plan and more carriers outside them to assist.
Conca's strength is his strong body with very good evasive skills whereas Brando is just a gut runner
with a nice long kick. He still lacks physicality and poise in his game.
Conca 6.5/10 so far whereas Brando 5/10.

I haven't seen the game but the paper has Conca going at 100% disposal efficiency. Now not a big stats fan, and sometimes it just means taking the easy option, but given that Conca often bites off more than he can chew with his disposal, how was his kicking, attacking, constructive or safe option.

As I mentioned he has actually been terrific the past two weeks. I watched bits and pieces of the second half due to an Easter gathering and what I saw he was very good in a lack lustre affair.

Lack lustre affair describes the game very well, which is why I am not getting over excited about the relevant performances. Rioli started the game looking for the special moments but then settled into what the game was. Dusty was well held by that meathead Robinson, credit to him I guess.

Conca and Ellis have built some chemistry, I first noticed it back at Maroochydore this year, and it is being displayed for its good and bad in game time. Don't mind it. it's how great combinations evolve, but they certainly look for one another out there and work that bit harder for each other.

Castagna has to play forward pocket, his kicking is too unreliable up the ground, and when he went in the middle..... omg. Big fan of the boy - just get him to clean up after Jack and we will have a good contributor for the time being. Butler with his pace and better kicking skills is the push-up the ground quick.

I'm really excited by Conca, he's a very good footballer.
Yep. Smart and tough. The only knock is his kicking, which, so far this year, has been fine.

Speaking of kicking...was Prestia this bad a kick at Gold Coast?

I'm wondering about this myself.

Don't get me wrong, Prestia was very good in the middle last night and I'm very happy with his inclusion in our team, he didn't turn it over as much this week as he did last week and against Collingwood, but it will be a concern if he doesn't start handballing more often.

Yeah, his hands are great. His kicking is pretty average, at least at the moment. And when he does turn it over, it's an absolute shocker. Maybe it's just a bad couple of games off the boot? I hope so.

ellis had a dip last night.
you know what I think about conca, give his some credit he has been good but still has brain farts every now and then, deserves his spot
Conca is playing very good football right now. As is Ellis. Ellis is still a worry in the contest, where Conca is good in traffic.

I agree. He is a far superior footballer to Lambert. It's nice if Lambert can do a good tagging job on someone, but surely he has to find the ball himself as well?
