Just heard that When Saturday Comes will be on during the season (starting first round). As well as Francis Leach hosting it the boys from The Bladder will also be involved.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

saturday spotlight is a quality show and sen will regret this crap decision, what are they going to replace it with a show hosted by francis leach on his own give me a break i like the guy but he is on the run home weekends is overkill

it seems there is too many big heads in production meetings and all the fun that went with the weekend mornings (spotlight and on the rise) is slowly started to get weeded out for RUBBISH and its a joke

the only games im going to listen to is when pickers or harf are doing special comments the rest i reckon abc would be more fresh and exciting and thats saying something

its bull****

My sentiments exactly PLSC. The same thing happen with the 'Insiders' with Bruce Mac, Dave Colbet (sp?) and Jake Niall. Was the best radio show going around and then got replaced by a goddam netball show.

Spotlight is golden and one of the few radio shows that makes me laugh out loud. The running gag all this morning about Mark Allen being too suntanned was priceless.

I'm disappointed Saturday Spotlight is going, but I suggest you guys give When Saturday Comes a chance.

When it was on the ABC a few years ago it was excellent. And the way the ABC handled its axing was horrible - apparently it skewed 'too young'.

I thought Spotlight was okay, but I think SEN has been missing a humorous fan type show, like Ralphie Serge and The Big Man or Ring of Fire.

Would love to have The Insiders back as well, as I think both Insiders and WSC will provide good lead ins for the footy, but I doubt that will happen.

I hope born in the USA stays....having footy basically non-stop from 5pm Friday till 8pm Sunday is going to ruin my weekend.
Next Sunday night is the last show :thumbsd:. I love AFL, but I like a good coverage of all sports more, and blanket coverage of AFL will ****ing bore me to tears. 3AW are bad enough in that other sports can struggle to get a look-in. The media is going ****ing AFL crazy, like channel 10 barring Helen Kapalos from being an ambassador for the Melbourne Storm .

Also get rid of the USA rubbish on Sunday night once footy starts. Should be footy almost non stop from Friday to Sunday.
Are you kidding me? Born in the USA is one of the best radio shows going, and I don't even follow US sports. Ed and Steve are brilliant and I enjoy having the banter on in the background.

Disgraceful that Born In The USA is going.
I've sent the below email to 'programming@sen.com.au".

Urge everyone else to do the same.

Hi,
I am an avid listener to SEN and it disappoints me to hear that two of my favourite shows, "Saturday Spotlight" and "Born In The USA" are now going the way of "The Insiders".

I understand that now that you have the AFL (congratulations by the way) that the station must concentrate on that sport more. Don't get me wrong, I love my AFL too but there is always room for other sports.

Born In The USA is a fantastic show for those who follow US sports. There are quite a few of us out there, you know !! Being between 10pm and Midnight on a Sunday, I cannot see what you could possibly replace it with. By that time of night, people will have had enough of AFL.

Also Steve and Ed are fantastic hosts, the talkback segment always generates plenty of calls and they know their stuff. They are probably the two most professional hosts at your station.

Ditto, Saturday Spotlight.
Why pull this show off now just as its started to develop a cult following ?
In my opinion, its the closest thing to the Insiders that the station has.

A few other points.
Any shows that relate to womens sports should be taken off.
a) Women don't listen to SEN anyway so why are you catering to them.
b) They're boring and nobody cares.

Motor racing, lawn bowls, weightlifting, netball are all minor sports. As such, they should be on either before 9am or after 11pm and on a weekend.

Don't overdo the AFL. Its SEN remember, not FEN.

nice email.

Listened to born in the USA last night and they did say that SEN would become a 24hr AFL station. no rela malice in their voices, just  IMO.

I was pissed off when Steve said it was their second last show last night. SEN are losing the plot and are going with too much AFL.

I'm like you r+b, I love my AFL but they are going overboard with it and it will turn people away.

I know I can't stand the amount of AFL talk on SEN, you'd think there were no other sports on in Melbourne. We have the FINA World Swimming Championships, the GP, the start of the NRL season and all they seem to talk about is trivial AFL issues.

They did send a quick response to be fair.

Hi xxxx, it's fair to say that SEN will become more seasonal than it has in the past.
We are looking at ways of using Ed and Steve in other segments across the week until the show returns after the afl..and when it does return it will more than likely be for an extended time which fits in pretty well with NFL and baseball in the states...as for saturday spotlight, while its true that it will be rested over winter, Mark Allen will continue as a full-time member of the SEN team and Liam's role will actually be increased. I am mindful we need to cover other sports aside from afl in the winter months .. that said, having 5 live games of footy each weekend will mean it has a pretty large weekend presence on SEN..MJ

I can't agree with his US sports analysis. NBA is the premier US sport in Oz, closely followed by NFL.

Not as many care for baseball.

Yet they cut it off just when the NBA playoffs hit and also when the draft is on.

Great move getting rid of the USA rubbish. Most people couldn't care less about the World Championships of Basketball/Baseball (NBA and MLB) and the World Championships of American Football (NFL). Put them on after midnight and before 6am or do podcasts for them as they mentioned last night. Glad I won't have to listen to that guy say "maaaaaate" in his US accent ever again.

They need something like Ralphie Serge and the big man back on for saturdays - that was quality.

I've lost a lot of respect for SEN.

why?

The station wasnt rating too well prior to getting the AFL coverage, its fair to say that it will live or die by the audience it can pull from AFL coverage ...

It makes sense then to be heavily into its AFL shows, the gains will far outweigh the numbers who stop listening coz the USA show is pulled

Commercial realities i would say

look i could handle losing born in the usa if we were getting a similar type show that was focusing on footy but we arent

all its going to be is stupid talkback for 4 hours and shows hosted by that pathetic mark fine who started as a producer and has washed his fair amount of cars to get his own shows now :thumbsd:

as i said if you have people who want to talk footy and know their stuff alright but dont do the overkill on the talkback because 99% who ring up are losers

You're a dead set idiot.

There are two aspects to the current changes at SEN:
- loss of content
- loss of staff

Ed and Steve are great blokes and I enjoy listening to them whenever they are on. The content for me anyway is secondary, yet for a little part of the week, I am happy to listen to the news and views on American Sport. So I hope they can find a slot on another radio station and continue their show during the AFL season. I would suggest a similar day and time on Sport 927.

exactly man

i couldnt give a crap about the latest college basketball result but those guys get you into it and sooner or later you know everything

if only we had those kind of guys talking about aussie sport

I hate American sports (well not hate, but I just don't get into them) but I find myself listening to Born in the USA every now and then and being interested in the topics they raise - pretty entertaining stuff I have to admit.

Podcasts better happen soon, not just on niche shows like that but on all shows. Even Triple M have them.

You could say they've sold out... But let's face it they have ALWAYS had a major focus on AFL from day one, when they started in the summer of '03/'04 they talked about the footy season more than the Aus Open which was also on then.

On a side note, what's wrong with the Schibecsta's ear in that photo? He looked alright in the previous one they had.

look i love my footy and i can listen to it all day but sometimes the hosts just have no idea and use plenty of stupid talkback topics for rubbish filter

atleast ed and steve can go more than 10 minutes on one topic and still keep bringing up good points, its not just these guys its sport in general if anyone has seen original pti and the aussie version well nuff said

im still pissed more about spotlight getting cut and also on the rise being dogged for a crap motor racing show

boring

move to ****ing america if you wanna listen to the that crap. great move by the station. the more footy talk the better. :thumbsu: as i've said before the next move should be too get rid of schebecci and the car racing show.

what ive gathered from this thread is that we all like different sports. the only constant is that we love AFL, but to varying degrees.

kooley youve stated that fans of born in the usa should move there. how about fans of soccer. im sure there are ignorant ppl who hate soccer and reckon it should be x-ed out of sen.

i agree that there could be too much afl. imo there is a good balance at the moment of afl-non afl sports. we'll just have to wait and see.

First of all,Rating systems are CRAP,in all of my life i have never, ever seen a radio ratings book.I listen to 1116SEN 24/7!! It's on all day and on my headphones most of the night.I ring up,i always send SMS's and with all the phone calls from listeners and texts, they seem to have a very big listening audience! IF people out there don't like a program or presenter, switch off and PEE off! Moron people who complain about this TV show or this Radio station the answer is T U R N O F F!...........:D

If everyone turned off, the station would die. People complain about a product being bad because that's their right. The people in charge of the product should then make it better, so that people DON'T turn off, and thus don't lose ratings.

I'm sure SEN wouldn't say "you know what, if you don't like it, turn the radio off". That's just bad management. And I'm sure advertisers would be thrilled.
