I hate the offseason, no, despise it, detest it, it disgusts me.
So why not eliminate it?

I propose:

AFL Season 2006

45 AFL Rounds - Each team plays each team 3 times, Starting January
>
1 week off for AA team, Brownlow, Rising Star etc.
>
4 weeks for Finals
>
1 week off for the players
>
1 week combined preseason training & competition

45 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 1 = 52

The ultimate AFL year. No offseason. No cooling off. 100% AFL all year. BRING IT ON!

Players are people too.

A novel idea though.

look how many injuries happen during the regular season, footballers are people not robots, this change would lead do much bigger lists and bigger bench because of the heat that they would have to play in.

Good thing about AFL is that there is that break to wet your appetite again. Sports like cricket and soccer are on all year. Footys only a few months then its gone. Silly idea.

Sarcasm generally doesnt work well on computers, it has a lot to do with tone of voice.

Christ I'm an idiot.

So you honestly believe that I believe in a 49 week season where the players get one week off after playing the toughest and most grueling game on earth for 10 months straight?

You got the last bit right at least. Simepleton.

The regular season and final take up half the year, along with trade periods, pre-season i think we have plenty.. Summer is time for Cricket, staying up late watching the soccer and just relaxing, whilst pumping you up with anticipation waiting for the next season to start..

Its all good the way it is...

you said what everybody was thinking with that last line, but most people were thing fuking idiot im tipping

As others have said, not sure why I'm biting for this reply but I will.

I love footy, and Essendon for that matter, but man I couldn't handle 52 weeks of AFL. The media coverage that it generates in the 6 weeks preseason + 22 regular + 4 weeks finals + 2 weeks trading week is enough for me. It's just totally in your face and when such trivial matters as "Whispers in the sky" dominates the frickin media for 3-4 days in a row and continually pops up weeks after, I just get sick of footy. Off-season is totally needed.
