Watched it blind after being recommended it by a friend.
Title didn't sound very appetising..... ewww spiders?
Then the Nickelodeanhttp://www.google.com.au/search?hl=...resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=Nickelodeon&spell=1 brand came up.... erhhh wtf did I get myself into?
Much to my surprise, its one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen all year.
Its very dark for a kiddie flick with its fair share of violence and scary creatures. Themes of the power of knowledge and the perils of blind ambition shone through with the kiddie actors outpacing their older counterparts with very strong performances. Its pretty surprising that an established actor like Mary-Louise Parker was the least believable of the lot..... like she just phoned it in.
Its definitely a level above the usual kiddie fare like the borefest that is the Narnia series and the braindead Golden Compass.
maybe not suitable for the younger kiddies because of the scary creatures but it is very highly recommended.
