Comes out this Thursday and from what I've seen of the trailers looks like it could be good although these types of movies are generally just hit or miss. I'm a big horror/slasher fan though so I'm rather looking forward to it.

Apparently it is "based" on real events. I've done a little bit of research on the topic but can't find any information. Anybody out there know of the story it is based on?

When I saw the preview I thought it was a comedy. Looks unbelievably stupid.

possibly based on the Keddie cabin murders

Cheers.

Just did a little bit of research into that case and wow....pretty damn strange isn't it?!

I've read a shitload of true crime stuff over the years and had never heard of the Keddie Cabins murders. Woulda thought it would be a bit more of a high profile case considering what went on and the fact that it's still unsolved. Eerie shit indeed....

Think the movie is "loosely" based on that one, although the director has said it is not based on one particular event and even incorporates things that happened in his neighbourhood when he was a child.

I'll be seeing the movie this Friday, hope it's half decent *fingers crossed*

LOL, pardon the pun?

On the movie, it looks very interesting, I love the whole horror/slasher genre, but not too sure I want to see a movie based on an incident that actually happened.

Will probably go see it though.

Upon further review it is not actually based on any one single incident.

Kinda like how they marketed the Texas Chainsaw Massacre as "inspired by a true story", which sucked all the dumbasses into believing that there was actually a cannibal family out in Texas with a ******ed son who liked chasing people with chainsaws and hacking their limbs off and the "footage" of Leatherface killing the cops at the end was real ;)

Review of The Strangers on At The Movies last night. David gave it 2 stars and said, "it is a nasty movie with a very nihillistic ending." All the more reason to see it now I guess...

*random useless footnote* Stars Aussie model Gemma Ward as one of the psychotic intruders. Shame we won't get to see her face though lol

I got free tickets to a preview screening last Monday.

I quite enjoyed it. It had a few jumpy moments, but wasn't overly scary.

One problem I had with it was we never found out why they were doing what they were doing to this couple. The masks they were wearing were a bit lame and kind of made it less scary for me.

Overall though there were know real twists and plot development was pretty poor.

I still enjoyed it though, although it doesn't take much to keep me entertained normally.

Plot:

A young couple staying in an isolated vacation home are terrorized by three unknown assailants.

Just wandering if people know other movies of this type out there !

Might hire Vacancy again.

Just saw this. Hadnt heard of it but must say I thought it was pretty good.

The build up in the first half hour was great IMO.

Nothing new but still worth watching.

Finally got around to seeing this flick the other day and it was a BIG miss imo.

A steaming pile of crud. Not scary, tried to be suspenseful but wasn't, token parts of all sorts of other horror/thriller movies thrown together ( the god damn record player bumping over and over- ugh). The antagonists in this movie were not scary at all and actually made me laugh. :thumbsd:

I'm glad I didn't fork out at the cinemas for this.

Ah, but that was the beauty of the whole thing!

Not eveything needs a typically Hollywood ending where everything is explained to you at the end like an episode of CSI...Scream parrodied this type of lame ending with the whole "you mum slept with my dad" crap explanation ... like the Blair Witch, some things are better off left to the viewer to make sense of.

I thought this movie was very well done. It was overall a good movie with moments of brilliance. The first half an hour was perfect. Getting to know the characters, the house, the timing of everything was perfect. The knocking on the door at 4:30am and also when Liv Tyler is home alone in the kitchen and sackface appears from the darkness is brilliant. Nothing flashy or abrupt. Just the simpleness and subtleness of it is terrifying.

I do find the fact that the couple (Tyler and Speedman) do more damage to themselves than what the trio does to them. This movie is alot better than all the other crap horror being released these days.
