Can't believe people are willing to give up our first pick on two guys who currently can't get a senior game. Is there another reason why they can't crack the senior team?
Trent Sporn used to get 30+ possessions every week in the VFL and the NEAFL is 10 times worse standard. And as for Jaschk doesn't matter has WAS a first round pick, still not getting a regular senior game at a bottom 2 side.
1st round picks should only be traded for PROVEN players. Pretty good draft this year and I'd rather take my chances there.

This is a question I've been trying to answer myself.

There are plenty of people who will tell you how good Mitchell is and he does 'look' like he knows what the game is about. The only problem is that he hasn't had many opportunities to show it due to the Swans dynamite midfield. There's no shame in being kept out of a team because of players so good like them. However, would he play to that level if he was with us ??

Jaksch is a different story, has the height & can play at both ends but has only managed 7 games in two years when the Giants have been in need a key defender. Hasn't set the world on fire with his stats either.

Good points you make. The only thing I would add is that Sydney fans are dead keen to keep him. That says a lot

Mitchell has played good games at AFL level. Whether being a part of a strong Sydney team padded those stats a bit is another story. What we do know is that he can play decently forward, can find the ball and is a strong tackler. All big ticks in my book.

In my opinion he is a better prospect and same type as Brayshaw, would we draft Brayshaw with pick 6 if given the opportunity, hell yes therefore trading pick 6 for Mitchell is fair.
In saying all that the club owes it to itself and the fans to get the best deal possible how that forms will be the interesting part.
Whether that's trading into the late first or pick 6 and steak knives is yet to be decided.

At the end of the day we win IMO if we get him for pick 6, and I couldn't imagine a riot down at princess park if it happened.

I should also mention that no kid we draft will be able to take the heat off Murphy and Gibbs in the midfield like Mitchell can. Mitchell, Gibbs, Murphy, and Cripps.. That's a beast like midfield. Just needs to be topped off with some speed in the mould of a Polec or Hill.

Mitchell was 1st at the Swans and 8th in the AFL for pressure acts applied per 100 minutes. Not bad for a then 20 year old. Malthouse would love his defensive inclinations.

Blease ;)

Pretty sure Mitchell has some brownlow votes or at least has had a lot of bog votes in the papers - the kid makes an impact

If the Swans had unlimited salary cap (they basically do anyway) I'd give up #6 for him - but as they need to drop him, we need to give less

i see no reason why we should be paying overs or evens for a guy who cant get a game at his club. Sydney have been pinching people recently and burning big cash to do it... they pinched tippet which cashed the crows up to pinch betts so by rights he is owed to us in a multi year three way trade...

its all about getting the boy over the line to leave the swans...

The problem for me is I'd want someone just as good if not better than say a Kennedy or a Parker for pick 6. I've spoken to guys who've been and watched the NEAFL who think that it's no better standard than some of the local footy going around. Any half decent AFL player would get 30+ each week easily. I just worry bout using this pick 6 on a reserves player.

Then look at his games in the afl and you might feel a bit more comfortable.

Averages 20 touches and 5 tackles in his 20 matches. How many young mids have we drafted that have come close to that production in recent times?

It's only based on the highlights reel, but geez, I don't know many players who go in as hard as Titch. Maybe a dude from Gee Long who often has a bandage around his head.

Get Titch, don't worry too much about the politics of the pic#. Next year, get an Isaac Smith or Peter Matera for the outside. Or both.

At the end of the day we have Mick at the helm.. He is experienced and not going to give away draft picks that are not appropriate for the player we will be receiving.. Ratten was inexperienced and we ended up losing a few trades under him... Mick wont be fooled in this department..
Trust what the club are doing.. We won big last year with giving up second rounders for Everitt and Docherty...
If we have to give up a first rounder for a certain player then so be it... It will be a very considered decision by all in the know if it's done...
We haven't got a team full of inexperienced people running the show in 2014.

Who can we draft from this years pool of talent that is as good as Kennedy or Parker? Petracca.. Gone by pick 7. Brayshaw.. Gone by pick 7. Plus neither of those are guarantees to be as good as Kennedy or Parker. Our development program is not as good as Sydney's.

Even better - we didn't give up a second rounder for Everitt. We got 39 & Everitt for 32 ;)

The problem is if we trade pick 6 out and try to get two late first rounders in, we might end up being outbid by say Richmond. We need him to nominate us. I'd probably use pick 6 in the deal but either get Swans to trade for another mid 2nd rounder or take another fringe player as well. e.g. Pick 6 for Mitchell and a 30ish pick or say pick 6 and 43 for Mitchell and Membrey.
