Been thinking about this over the weekend and I believe it is time for Richmond to become RUTHLESS again.

For the past 4 years we have given players chances, given them time to develop and have held onto injury prone players and under performers for too long. So it is time for Cameron, Wallace & co to make the hard decisions and cut players who are not going to take us forward. If it means we lose a player who some think may go on and be a star so be it.

Here is a list of players who should be feeling rather nervous about continuing on at Punt Rd next year:
Casserly - been on the list since 2005 and apart from 1 NAB cup game earlier this year has hardly looked like getting a run in the seniors. Might be a talented kid, but at 22 and with a injury list as long as your arm, the time has come for you to try your luck elsewhere.
Graham - Another who has been on the list for 3 years and has really struggled to get games. I know people say that talls take time to develop but Graham was a rookie pick who unfortunately just hasn't come on as well as hoped. If we are able to get either Warnock or Griffin then Graham could be on his way back to King Island.
Hyde - Was pretty much given the hint when he was allowed to lead the side off after the final training run. Was a player with plenty of potential prior to fracturing his skull against the Saints a few years ago. Now there are too many who have gone past him.
King - will be very lucky if he is retained and about the only thing that will save him is if he has a contract.
JON - a former top 10 draft pick who failed to take the opportunities given to him and repay the confidence Wallace showed in him at the start of the year. May be given 1 last chance though as Wallace does believe that players need a good 4 years before they can be labelled. Would gladly take a pick between 20 & 30 for him if it was offered.
Polak/Pettifer - I believe 1 will go and 1 will stay, unfortunately we can't afford to carry 2 long term injuries. So the club will have to make a decision. At the moment I would say Polak is the one who may end up being let go and that would only be on Doctors advice. Pettifer would go though if there was a chance Polak could come back in 2010.
Polo - Get the feeling he will be shopped around this year and may attract a bit of attention from rival clubs. If we can get a pick between 20-30 then I would let him go. Would also let him go if we could arrange a player swap. I wonder if pick 26, JON & Polo would get us Warnock & Mundy or pick 22 from Freo.
Tambling - Now this might get some people off side and I'll wear that but if a top 8 club was to offer us their first round pick for him I would seriously consider letting him go. After 4 years and 75 games he just doesn't look like he has come on as much as many hoped he would. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and make a hard call to get ahead in AFL. Having said that I wouldn't mind keeping him as he could end up being a valuable role type player when we are up and running.

As I said the time has come to make some calls on players who just haven't delievered or are seemingly injury prone. Some of you might not like the names of thrown up but if you really want to see this club move forward then being ruthless is the only way that is going to happen. Nursing players for 5+ years in the hope that they come good is a thing that should not happen any more. The time has come to either sink or swim.

90% right RT, leave tambling , the rest you can have some fun with:rolleyes:
As I said Bo, Tambling I would only offload if we were getting a pick between 9-16 otherwise forget it. Doubt we would offer him up and I doubt another club would offer that, although the Pies might considering they need to add pace to their midfield.

Doesnt bother me. weakest tackler in the side! he just sticks the arm out and stands there!

I agree with this RT.
I want a decent amount of draft picks this year, so would try to trade Petiffer and King, keep JON and Tambling and ship the rest off.
Add Tivva who's already been gone, and we're getting up to 5, 6, 7 national draft and PSD picks.

Then 3 of Howat, Sylvestor, Cartledge and Collard (hopefully the first 3), for some more rookie selections.

Agree with all except Polo. I do like this kid and I see him and Jackson fighting out for the same spot. Jackson probably has a bit more aggression and urgency in his game whereas Polo goes missing for periods. The opposition don't mind if he racks up 25 possies a game coz he's not as damaging with the ball.
If he can learn how to use the ball better and not go in and out of games, he would definately be one that I would want to keep.

i wouldn't get rod of polo or tambo

Delist: Hyde, Tivendale, Pettifer, Polak, Johnson, Jackson, Howat, Cartledge, Silvestor.

That means we use our 1st-5th round picks + 1 PSD pick and take 3 new rookies that adress list needs and are all developing youngsters.

Trade:
Agressively trade these players for picks/pick upgrades/ruckman: King, Pattison, McMahon, JON, Hughes.

See what's on offer: Tambling, Newman, Brown, Edwards, Schulz, Polo

Hold onto for GC: McGuane and Raines.

Firstly, Wallace has already stated list changes will be kept to a minimum. So we wont be delisting 6 players while also trading upto 11 others. Just wont happen.

Secondly, if we delist practically every player we have with more than 100 games next to their names apart from Richo, Bowden, Simmonds & Newman then we may as well make room for spoon number 3 and the club may as well sack Wallace now.

Thirdly, you wont get nothing for Brown at the trade table now so forget him, JON and Hughes as well as neither has much currency at the moment. Schulz might and was one I would add to the list I put up but with Polak likely to be gone I decided to keep him on for another season until I see Rance and Gourdis play some senior footy. As I said with Tambling, he would get you a first rounder and I would do the deal. Newman is almost certain to take over the captaincy next year so it is doubtful the club will trade him unless they could get something exceptional. Polo & Edwards, the best you could hope for is either a second round pick or a package where we trade our second round pick and him for another teams second round pick or late first round pick.

So Beaver's done exactly what he wants then.

RT being ruthless involves not working within the current climate at the club. I'm not saying my suggestions are realistic, just trying to be ruthless whilst keeping some form of rationality. We should realistically look to move on 5-7 players.

I say you are going one year early. Tivers, Hyde, petts, cartledge, howat, silvester and possibly graham will go if we pick up warnock. The rest will stay. Casserly under contract. Polo maybe traded with schultz but I highly doubt other clubs rate them as we or the club does. Sit tight rt, let's give one more final go.

Picks 8, 26, 42, 58

Casserly - hold if trades can be made to free room. if not delist and rookie. Due to injuries has not been able to show talent and if he gets himself right could be a good player. can run and use the ball.
Hyde - trade to Sydney for a low pick - think he will be a great fit for Sydney - such a good bloke hopefully he gets a go somewhere else.
JON - offer him, pick 26 and Angus Graham for trade for a pick in the early 20's at least and a pick in the 30's or early 40's. He is the utlity version of Naitanui. Gun athlete but still learning the game. May turn out to be a player.
Graham - trade as a set of stake knives. is a big ruckmen and should be semi attractive.
King - delist or trade. Too small to be a backmen. Can't compete against players who can mark. Tought decision as his run and clean hands will be missed. Also a born competitor.
Dean Polo - trade for a pick between 20 and 30. Freo may bite - after Bell, McManus, Carr, Carr have left they will need some mids. Polo can play but does go in and out of games so we should let him go. Jackson has clearly got that spot. finished in the 22 and was winning posessions.
Shulz - trade to the crows, port or carlton for their second round pick. Graham could be the set of steak knives here as well. Carlton need key position and a ruck. should have a look.
Howat - gone
Cartledge - either one of graham or cartledge must stay. need ruck insurance. Cartledge does not embarrass himself. He competes in the ruck and is handy around the ground. skills aren't great but knows it so doesn't put the ball in silly spots when kicks. can drift forward too.
Collard - hold - desperate for a small crumbing forward with x factor.
Collins - hold - if trades can be made or delist and rookie. can use the ball
Polak - long term injury list - promote Cartledge/Collard
Pettifer - delist or trade - is too one way

If Tivendale, Pettifer, King, Hyde, Graham, Shulz, Polo and JON go that's 8 picks available which is a lot. Doubtul all will go

If we can trade two of Shulz, Polo, JON with Graham as the steak knives in something like the above mentioned deals this should leave us with something like

picks 8, 22, 26, 28, 42, 46, 58 - a good hall considering recruiters are saying that it will be hard to split picks 10 to 25 or something like that.

with pick 8 in the pre season

Pick 8 - Lewis Johnston or Steele Sidebottom - CHF or quality mid
Pick 22 - Jordan Roughead/Trengrove (may slide due to injuries)
Pick 26 - Jetta - small forward/quick mid/hf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j8NhG-O2pM&NR=1

Which is why I nominated 9 players. Realistically, we wont get rid of Tambling which still leaves 8, IMO either Pettifer or Polak should go which means there are still another 6 who could possibly go alongside Tivers. Get rid of 5 of the players I named, promote Cartledge (get the feeling Terry will) and we'll still have 5 picks for the drafts.

Im actually beginning to think King has more value than Polo, runs thru the lines wins plenty of the pill avg 19 possies at 83% efficiency...Im not convinced that Polo has any improvement left in him, was poor effort yesterday , expected much more from him and Coggs...if they both had designs on a senior berth they should have shared BOG honour with 25-30 touches..both would have had half that

Coggs had 24 touches and 2 goals yesterday Bo & there was a decent write up about him in todays paper saying how he looked to be playing very good footy.

well I dont know if you saw the game, I thought that article was very flattering to say the least...He was prob more prominent in first half but really failed to put his mark on the game throughout

RT this is off subject..
Is griffen from Dogs out of contract and is he looking to move on? He would be a good pick up if he didnt cost too much

Thanks in advance:thumbsu:

No just long enough until we have a decent list. You know, the list's that can win premierships. The list's that are completely different to our own.

Fail.

I'd doubt "he wouldn't cost much" the dogs would hang onto him for all they're worth, waste of time pursuing him
