Gladbaqs
Team Captain
(I believe there is already a thread discussing fallacies and misconceptions etc...but I can't find it)
Scarlett's (and Ablett's) recollection that Ablett could have run further and had a shot ignores the rather obvious obstacle (Sam Gilbert) approaching rapidly from inside the fifty. They both maintain that the only reason Ablett kicked was because he mistook Scarlett for a St Kilda opponent and instinctively disposed of the ball.
A good lesson in how myth becomes legend, even with 100,000 contemporary eye witnesses and a national TV audience.
(Stephen Quatermain's call that Ablett had a shot "from eighty metres!" is also inaccurate to a not insignificant extent...)
