We really screwed up on Saturday and now from a week ago where it looked like we were certainties for the top 4 we are now 5th, 2 points out of the top 4 and in a dogged fight with 4 other clubs (Fremantle, Essendon, Collingwood and even Richmond) for those final two top 4 spots. It is my belief that if we have any hope of winning the flag we need to be in the top 4 at the end of the home and away season.

Anyway here is the next 5 weeks for us and our competitors for the top 4.

3. Fremantle (38 points
Round 14 - Geelong (Simmons)
Round 15 - St Kilda (Subiaco)
Round 16 - West Coast (Subiaco)
Round 17 - Richmond (MCG)
Round 18 - Adelaide (Subiaco)

4. Essendon (36 points)
Round 14 - West Coast (Subiaco)
Round 15 - Port Adelaide (Edihad)
Round 16 - Western Bulldogs (Edihad)
Round 17 - GWS (Skoda)
Round 18 - Hawthorn (Edihad)

5. Sydney (34 points)
Round 14 - Carlton (SCG)
Round 15 - Melbourne (MCG)
Round 16 - GWS (SCG)
Round 17 - West Coast (Simmons)
Round 18 - Richmond (SCG)

6. Richmond (32 points)
Round 14 - St Kilda (MCG)
Round 15 - North Melbourne (Edihad)
Round 16 - Gold Coast (Cazaly)
Round 17 - Fremantle (MCG)
Round 18 - Sydney (SCG)

7. Collingwood (32 points)
Round 14 - Port Adelaide (AAMI)
Round 15 - Carlton (MCG)
Round 16 - Adelaide (MCG)
Round 17 - Gold Coast (Metricon)
Round 18 - GWS (MCG)

So what do you all think? Who has the advantage over the next 5 rounds and who will be in the top 4 after round 18?

Carlton game is obviously pivotal. Why aren't the Cats relevant to this discussion? They just lost to the Lions (glee) and face Freo next week.

Shit how did that happen? This is the first I heard of it as I switched off the TV at half time thinking that I couldn't be bothered seeing the rest of the match.

Me too, wonderful result for us given the circumstances this weekend :)

That leaves Fremantle and Geelong on similar points going in to a clash with each other, leaving us nipping at the heals of the loser SHOULD we beat the Blues.

Going into the bye we were 8-1-2 and 16-1-5 would probably get us or Freo into the top 4(could come down to percentage if both can't fit in). That means we could've probably afforded 3 losses in the back part of the year. The early part of the second half of our draw was the 'supposed' to be the easier part and it gets harder towards the end.

It's sort of like playing 'who wants to be a millionaire' - start with easy questions that get progressively harder, 3 lifelines. And yesterday we used the phone a friend on the mother F***ing $100 question that even the 6 year olds get right. We've got 2 lifelines left and can't afford to waste another....you need to save them for the hard questions or you're going home with $32, 000. That's not enough when you're playing for $1,000,000.

I think freo are actually going to drop a few coming home.
They've got their captain and one of the top 3 ruckmen in the league to come back in. Even with those players out, and an injury list as bad as ours, they have lost only 2 matches for the year - both against top 4 opposition.

fixed*

Freo are a lock for top 4.

Essendon should slide a couple you would think, haven't played the Hawks yet etc. Big game against the Eagles on Thurs, could struggle coming off the bye - I'll be cheering for the Eagles for the first time in I think ever.

Again, this Carlton game is so frickin important - could be the difference between us being 3rd and 7th at the end of next round.

Cant bore teams to death every week

Wont say that on the main board obviously

Underestimate them at your own peril, other than Hawthorn they are probably the most consistent side of the competition.

I dont play against them

Ross lyon wont ever coach a flag

Ten games to go ...
Home games in bold.

We play the top two teams (Haw, Cats)
The bottom four teams (Mel, GWS, Dogs, St K)
And four teams below us on the ladder (Rich, Coll, Carl, WCE)

The games in red are the one I think are critical to us making top 4 and must wins, biggest positive is that 3 out of 4 are home games.
