A blog post I've written in which I talk about how the sporting underdog has become quite powerful in recent times!

Go the doggies!

Underdogs...how very 2015...

I'm not buying this fairytale Footscray bullshit, which unlike many underdogs they are flogging for all it's worth, and has put me right off the team in recent weeks...I hope they get a reality check today, and back it up next year based upon necessary character building - then they'll have my top level of respect...

Soccer and the AFL have absolutely no real correlation with each other. We have salary caps and drafting, and equalisation measures right across the board in a concentrated population all doing things pretty much the same way. Soccer doesn't, it has none of this.

Leicester is an actual gobsmacking upset. Million dollar team v billions dollar organisations, Moneyball at its finest. Footscray will not be because all 18 teams come from exactly the same place, give or take the odd concessional draft pick, which in five years will be inconsequential to all. They are just yet another team rising the ladder up against a team who've done a better job of staying there...happens every year...and one of them is going to fetch a higher price from William Hill than the other...meh...

I barrack for Wolves too, have ever since Andy Gray lifted the League Cup in 1980...the highs and lows of that team are extreme compared to anything a VFL or AFL team has faced in 120 seasons...but the reality is, right across all Euro soccer leagues, that only a few teams in each can win it, the champion often known with weeks to go in the season, and with no surprises from when betting started in Week 1. Many fans have no concept of what an even competition actually looks like, and if you talk to my British in-laws, the Wolves supporter wants to make the EPL and finish 17th, the Arsenal supporter wants to destroy Spurs, and the Man U supporters want a royal commission into why they didn't win last season...the rest support Colchester and Peterborough, and don't talk much...

Good stuff and thanks for sharing. Don't worry about the keyboard warrior campaigners that feel the need to shoot down posts like this.
