Hi All,

was reading the article below

http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/af...in-historic-flag/story-fniv64vs-1226853500499

According to the west owned by channel 7 (Eagle) we supposedly have the oldest list. Low and behold we dont Sydney just pips us with that and with the move of their mumy ruckman would have been even more.

They just love putting us down.

Did a bit of evaluation below, looks like qwe have the tallest average height yes we are old but if PAV and Sandi and MAC retire the number goes down to....

Below is my analysis summary, lets discuss. Also attached the worksheet for all other teams, feel free to share.

I was listening to Micky Barlow on 882 this morning for his usual spot with Millsy and Baz and when they told him that Freo had featured on both the front and back pages of The West today, Micky replied, "How did we manage to get Nick Naiatnui off the back page?"

Absolute gold from Mick B there folks!

Basil Zemplis was lost for words when he said it too.

There no doubt woulda been a 3 page centrefold on Nic Nat to even things out

quoting Peter Higginbothom " Insignificant" . Of course the list comprises twice as many players that will be playing in the best 22.
Furthermore I think quality is a more important aspect and looking at the list much of that is on the young side.

On the Nic Nat front I saw some very significant stats recently. Compared to players around the same number of games experience - For hit outs per game he is significantly behind Goldstein , Leuenberger and even Warnock. In fact the disappointing Bellchambers is above him.

Baz and Millsy had a good chuckle about it.

In 2012 when he was named the All Australia ruckman he was 17th in the league for hitouts per game.

That's it. Give him the captaincy now. Love it :thumbsu::thumbsu:

.

The west will correct that tomorrow, he'll be on the back page and there'll be a NicNut cut-out mask in the weekend edition.

You do have the oldest list according to the AFL 2014 season guide.

I guess the real question though is how much does that matter? Average list age gets a lot of discussion for something that's really not that useful as a measurement.

Mate look at the analysis of the facts above it is sydney who has the oldest we are second oldest.

Oldest list is probably the most meaningless of measures, because average list age for clubs (aside from GWS + GCS) is bounded within a range of 1.5 years.

Every year clubs go back to the draft and Fremantle are no different.

I agree with this, most clubs (other than GC & GWS) are about a year or so apart from each other, is it really going to make a difference on the field?

It's a doubled edged sword. Premierships are won by clubs with most of it's players in the 25+ prime age. We've all seen what happens to the Melbourne's who discard experience in favour of youth.

I don't really buy this average age comparison thingy. Premierships are won by teams having the best combination of experience, skill, fitness and strategy.

Average age is just a poor approximation when you don't have distinct measure of the above attributes.

Pav, Sandi and McPharlin are all in our best 22 because they are still the best players in the AFL, regardless of age. When their skill level dip, they will not be in the team, regardless of age.
