Didn't they do well on the weekend?
The older heads such as Willo, Goodes and Micky were in there as well, but playing more of a guiding role, than a "lone hand" role. I think we'll have a very decent side in the next few years as long as we keep putting in the new guys for a go. The talent and ability is there, we just have to get that confidence and teamwork etc etc stuff up.
Jason Saddington - I'm going to classify Saddo as a young'un only in the sense that he is a newcomer to the wonderful world of on-field leadership. I felt that today he directed play quite well from the halfback line, sometimes even drifting into Dunks' territory to take marks. Too light for Dunks' role, but doesn't do too bad leading from the, uh, back.
Ricky Mott - continues to impress. Formed a great ruck partnership with Stephen Doyle. I thought this was really the first time the two of them had "gelled" as a rucking team in a game. When one was in the ruck, the other was drifting around elsewhere on the ground causing havoc. Good second efforts by Motty in particular, and nice marking presence up forward for Doyley.
Amon Buchanan - This kid has footy smarts by the bucketload. Did a lot of nice things, like that tap-on late in the 4th quarter. Good disposal skills and an astonishingly good mark for his size.
Tadhg Kennelly - I'm giving Tiger some votes this week. Has really come on in recent games, and today was his best yet, snaring 23 possies. Has taken his kicking and tackling to new levels, and skills are good with ALL parts of his body ;-) His chase to regain control of the ball on the O'Reilly wing was a highlight.
Ben Fixter - Another surprise packet! Hard at it, and can really play. Disposal a bit scrappy, but already improving.
Luke Ablett - Only got 4 possessions, but shows he has class. I remember at least one handball out of a pressure situation, and he can thump the ball long.
The usual suspects got lots of the ball - Willams (28), Cresswell (28), Fosdike (26), Mathews (20)... but this time they were well supported. That was the key today I think. Freo had too many passengers, and we were fully committed for most of the day. Still too much bloody arsing around with it, but if we have players backing each other up, it's all good.
